What is it?
A program to encourage home gardens to grow a little extra produce this year and donate any extra fruit and veggies beyond your family needs to the food insecure.
How does it work?
The Lions have organized four drop sites around town, so there should be one within a convenient distance of your home. The donated produce will be transported twice a week (see the below schedule) by Lions members to TEEG or the Community Kitchen at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock.
How can I participate?
All you have to do is drop off the extra veggies you grow in your garden on the day of a scheduled collection. That’s it! You can choose whether to expand your garden this year or not, but we encourage you to grow as much extra as you can manage. There will be signage directing you to where a well marked container will be waiting for your donation.
Is there anything else?
We would appreciate it if donors supply their own bags or boxes or other packaging. Plastic grocery bags work fine if that’s all you have, although please double bag the heavy ones, and be sure to leave them open so your donations don’t spoil before they reach their destination.
Is that really it, though?
Ok, one more thing- we are trying to build our online presence to attract new members, publicize the program, and better serve the community. If you’re a social media user, please tag us in your garden photos:
