Community projects:
Scholarship: At least two $2000 scholarships are granted yearly and funded by our annual golf tournament. The White Haven Lions are very proud of our two scholarships, offered for college or trade school to any applicant in the White Haven area, regardless of age.
Halloween Parade: The annual parade for the community includes high school bands, fire trucks, classic cars and children and adults in costume. Afterward everyone gets a hot dog, a piece of cake, a candy bar and a beverage. Prizes are awarded for children, adults, groups and floats.
Community Service: As well as the programs the White Haven Lions organize, we also aid other community organizations with donations of money, time and our labor, as needed.
We have sponsored the White Haven Community Library, and helped the White Haven Fire Department and the White Haven Summer Rec Program. We team with the Knights of Columbus to ring the Salvation Army bell for 5 weekends each Christmas, donate to the local food pantry, and sponsor a little league team. We have given donations to needy families for glasses and heat, provided funds to help area students in foreign exchange programs.
Fundraisers:
All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Supper: 1st of our two annual fundraisers the spaghetti dinner is held in April around Tax Day. Lions members make the sauce and cook up the pasta a day in advance then with the help of a local cook serve up several hundred dinners including salads, bread, all-you-can-eat entrée and home baked desserts provided by members and their wives.
Annual Golf Tournament: our 2nd fundraiser held in early August, goes to fund our scholarships. Each scholarship is for $2,000.00 and several years we were able to supplement with additional $500 awards.
