Projects and Activities Overview

The “Lions Year” runs from July 1 to June 30. Each year the men and women of the Westmont Lions club hold several major fundraisers and service events. The Westmont Lions will
~ Host a booth at the annual township FALL FESTIVAL to connect with the community to make them aware of the services we provide to our neighbors, and to learn more about the rewards of becoming a Lions International member. Usually held in late September.

~ Hold a HALLOWEEN HOME and BUSINESS DECORATION contest. Signs are placed on participating properties and maps are provided so the community can view the contestants and visit and vote for their favorites. Held during the month of October. 

~ Organize and run the annual HALLOWEEN PARADE. The club has run this parade since the 1940's and is a tradition the town looks forward to each year. The parade is held every year on October 30th, with the rain date on the 31st.  

~ Serve a full course dinner to the residents of Rohrer Towers I for the annual Senior Citizen THANKSGIVING DINNER. Members always enjoy interacting with the guests. Traditionally it is held the Sunday before Thanksgiving each November.

~ Participate in Lions Kids Sight USA by providing free CHILDREN'S EYE SCREENINGS in area schools and daycare centers to detect possible sight impairments early. Screenings are held throughout the school year

~ Hold a BUNCO NIGHT fundraiser. This family friendly evening includes a basket auction and great snacks. Game instructions are provided so even first time players can join the fun. Proceeds benefit the Lions charitable foundation. Late February.

~ Recycle used EYE GLASSES and HEARING AIDS. Collection Boxes are located at the Community Activities Office, 10 Reeve Avenue, Haddon Township (yellow mail box) and at the William G. Rohrer Memorial Library, Haddon Twp. Branch of the Camden County Library, 15 MacArthur Blvd., Westmont, NJ  08108

~ Support Community Environmental Projects. Participate in Recycling Efforts for GREEN DAY (collecting  used hearing aids and glasses) Support youth in PARK TRAIL CLEARING project.  
~ Assist the Association of Blind Athletes of New Jersey with their annual GUNDERMAN GOALBALL CLASSIC  at Haddon Township High School. The Lions encourage community members to come and watch this fast paced, physically challenging and exciting game, and perhaps donate a few hours as volunteers. Held in June, games played all day Saturday and til noon on Sunday.
~ Hand out candy treats and provide children with a  chance to MEET THE EASTER BUNNY.  Easter Bunny arrives at the town center pavilion via firetruck. Parents are welcome to take their own photos with the bunny in front of a colorful spring backdrop.Usually held Saturday before Palm Sunday, with the raindate set for the Saturday before Easter.
~ Send delegates to the NJ LIONS CONVENTION in Atlantic City. Lions from througout the state will come together to network, learn, vote, participate in service projects and celebrate how great it is to be a Lion! Runs on a Thursday night through Saturday evening in mid-May.
~ Award HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS to Seniors graduating from Paul VI High School and Haddon Township High School. (The Lions  also provide service opportunities throughout the year to students from both schools - and the students  are a huge help with our projects and fundraisers.) June
~ Sponsor a CHARITY CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT to support the Westmont Lions Charitable Foundation and to support families battling Childhood Cancer. Double elimination tournament, basket auction and 50/50. 

 

~ Send delegates to the LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION. International destination cities change each year. Click here for Future sites.  Runs for five days either at the end of June or begining of July.
