Our Projects

Making a Difference

Each year we have one major project in December and several smaller projects during the year.

Our major project, "The World Festival of Magic" hosts up to 2,000 children, parents and members of the community who have fun while being entertained by some of the best magicians.

Cooking at Ronald McDonald House

About every six months our club caters a meal for families staying at Ronald McDonald House. We can be catering for between 30-80 people ... and there is usually enough left over for our members to eat a late meal too. We all pitch in with everyone having a particular task to do. It is concentrated work, heading for a designated meal time but its all fun all turns out well.  Its a real priviledge to help those who have family, often children and babies, staying at Wellington Hospital.

Wellington Lions Keratoconus Study (WeLKS)

The Lions Eye Research Charitable Trust (formerly LEINZ) in conjunction with Capital Research Vision Trust (CVRT) and Wellington Host Lions Club are excited to announce what is believed to be the first World Wide study into Keratoconus.

This study aims to find out how common keratoconus is among secondary school students in year 9 and year 11 in the Wellington region. If we find their eyesight is reduced and may be affecting their education, we will provide them with information and options to improve their eyesight.

Keratoconus is a disease of the cornea that predominantly affects young people causing reversible blindness. The WeLKS study is the first project worldwide to screen for keratoconus in school children to PREVENT VISION LOSS.

Our other projects include BBQs, Foodbank Collections, Christmas Cake sales, Fashion Shows, Quiz and Movie Nights and a Neighbourhood Support initiative for Wellington's inner city residents.

Become a Lion

Lions Clubs Fit Your Lifestyle

Lions Clubs International offers a volunteer opportunity that fits your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to lend a helping hand or pursue a leadership role, Lions has an option for you.

Being a Lion allows you to help change lives, and you can commit as much time as you wish and as your schedule allows.

A club’s time commitment depends mainly on the service activities they undertake. Most clubs meet once or twice a month to plan projects, provide community service and conduct club business.

Be Part of Something That Matters.

Our Lions Club believes in gender diversity.
