Meetings

Dear fellow lions,

'Serve Beyond Our Limits’

It is with a sense of pride & fellowship I remind you at the outset of our Club motto “Serve Beyond Our Limits”. In order to make it a reality we must make a concentrated effort with our time, skills, and resources to make a difference in the lives of people & families in our area, by conducting truly meaningful Community Service projects.

As lions we must feel with a sense of pride that we belong to world’s largest Service Club organization, which is ranked as one of the best NGOs, if not the best in the world. As you are aware Lions family with a membership of around 1.5 million, spread over 200 Countries is serving internationally to combat eye condition such as Cataract by conducting “sight first programme”, Diabetics awareness, Cancer screening, environmental issues, establishment of Leo’s clubs for the youth, and many other humanitarian programmes.

No doubt, Lions in Sri Lanka has also been doing a lot of meaningful community service projects during the past few decades. Let us set our foot to where we need to, so that years following Centennial Celebrations will be admired & adjudged by our Community & Society at large, that there is an Association which has been responsible for transforming the lives of many, cared for the needs, protected the environment to live healthy & in happiness. In this context let us execute truly meaningful projects, instead of being “Awards conscious”. Remember our motto “We serve”, so let us live up to the ideals of this great movement and let winning Awards be a byproduct and not the priority, when planning our projects. It is important that Lions should do projects that are unique to Sri Lanka as the needs of our people are diversified and different from others.

As you are aware, Lion Joe Preston MJF, International President of Lions visited SL recently. He participated in a multiple project programme, and was pleased with the work carried out by the Lions family of SL. He shared his theme “Strengthen the Pride of Service” through service projects. Also in order to strengthen the Clubs he requested to implement “Ask One” – to invite members who are passionate & committed to the ideals of the association. So let all of us invite service minded persons to join our Lions Club.

In conclusion I wish unprecedented success to all dear members, and hope that our Club & the District will reach it’s pinnacle of glory as we turn around to our Centenary year.
