Eyeglass Collection for Recycling
Waynesfield Lions collect hundreds of pairs of eyeglasses each year for recycling.
In 2021, Lions in the Auglazine, Logan and Mercer County areas collected for than 15,000 pairs of eyeglasses for VOSH. There are boxes in many libraries, eye professional offices and businesses in the area.
Contact a club member or officer if you have eyeglasses to donate. Glasses are sent on mission trips throughout the world, either through VOSH (Volunteer Optometrists in Service to Humanity) or Lions Clubs International. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Roar for the Troops
November 4, 2019 - 3 Waynesfield Lions plus 35 other Lions and Girls Scouts from the Auglaize and Mercer county areas helped pack boxes for service men and women serving overseas. 55 boxes were filled. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the boxes! This is a yearly project for the Lions clubs in our area.
Recycling Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids and Cell Phones
The Waynesfield Lions Club is proud to be a major collector of used eyeglasses in the Auglaize County area and other surrounding communities. Collection boxes are placed in numerous locations (libraries, eye care centers, optometrists' offices etc.) and club members take responsibility to ensure that the boxes are emptied frequently.
Thanks to the efforts of Lions Past District Governor Barney Roll (Waynesfield Club member now deceased), there are almost 300 wooden collection boxes throughout Ohio and more than 250,000 pairs of recycled eyeglasses have already been delivered to the Lions International Eyeglass Recycling Center in Upland, Indiana. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact. If you have eyeglasses to donate, please contact a Lions Club member.
The Good Program
The Good Program was established by Ron Derry of Baltimore, Ohio, a former schoolteacher and coach who was afflicted with blindness. The concept of The Good Program is to recognize young people who are not necessarily the "straight-A" students or the top athletes. The Good Program shines the spotlight on students who work hard and exhibit good citizenship and good personal and study habits. Waynesfield Lions sponsor this program in the Waynesfield-Goshen Local School District. Students are awarded certificates and T-shirts. Awards are presented at the end of the school year at the school award ceremony.
