Waukegan Uptown Lions Club was initially formed as an extension of the original Waukegan Emblem Club. The women who initiated the formation decided that the club should be unique and innovative, as it would be an all-female Lions club, and be a forerunner of leadership status in the Waukegan community. Ruth Moorhead and Susan Barack, both innovators in their own right, established the charter on May 26th, 1992 leading the all-woman club for a number of years, before others took the helm and led the club into the 21st Century. Waukegan Uptown Lions continue to serve the community in varied areas.
