How we Serve our Community
- Eden-Hazelton Celebration -- The Valley Lions have organized the annual Celebration since 2021. This tradition was started by the Hazelton and Eden Lions clubs in 1953 and is our community's premiere event. It draws over a thousand folks to enjoy the parade, food, music, activities, and legendary fireworks display by the First Segregation Fire District. Set a reminder in your phone for the last Saturday in June!
- Lions Lakeside Social -- The Valley Lions hosted the first Lakeside Social in 2020 to give our neighbors an occasion to reconnect after a time of isolation. The event is held at the beautiful Johnson Memorial Park on the shores of Wilson Lake on the Friday before the Celebration and features food, music, and a star party after the sun sets.
- Operation Facelift -- Operation Facelift is a program of the Rural Economic Development Service that provides funds for rural cities to spruce up their communities. The Valley Lions are pleased to volunteer for projects in Eden, Hazelton, and Murtaugh.
- Helping Hands Thrift Store -- Operating the thrift store in Hazelton on behalf of Helping Hands Thrift Store, Inc. (a 501c3 nonprofit organization) is the reason the Valley Lions Club was organized. We are pleased to continue this partnership.
- Tree planting -- In the fall of 2020 the Valley Lions partnered with the North Side Soil & Water Conservation District to enhance the windbreak at the Valley School's football field.
- Historic Preservation -- The Valley Lions received a grant from the Idaho Humanities Commission to digitize the First Segregation News, the community's historic weekly newspaper. Several years of the paper are now freely available here!
- Little Free Libraries -- Eden and Hazelton both have Little Free Libraries, purchased and installed by the Valley Lions Club.
