Tulsa Metro McCullough Lions club name is the result of two clubs deciding to join forces in order to become stronger effort in their work to help the community of east tulsa.
Suburban Acres Lions was chartered in 1956 and after several name changes become known as Tulsa Metro Lions club.
Tulsa McCullough Lions club was originally chartered as Tulsa Eastside Lions club in 1974. After several months of letter writing from the members of this club, Lions International agreed to change the name to Tulsa McCullough Lions Club so they could honor the name of Doctor Bob McCullough. Dr. Bob was International President in 1970-71 and while he served as president he became known around the world as "Dr. Bob".
The two clubs have worked together for many years and decided in 2009 to join forces so they could become stronger in their efforts. The leadership in these two clubs has produced seven district governors, four council chairs and one vice council chair, plus numerous state positions. At one time, the McCullough Lions Club had charted the Tulsa Deaf Lions club, which is no longer.
In addition to supporting the state projects such as the Eye Bank, Boys Ranch, Dr. Briggs Scholarship Fund and Oklahoma Lions Service Foundation, they continue to support local projects. Some of these projects are Lakeside Residential, McCullough city park, and collecting eye glasses.
