SENIORS APPRECIATIONN DAY
On the 13th of November 2014, the Lions Club of Toronto (Central) donated warm clothing for 200 senior citizen residents of the Toronto Community Housing. We did this in recognition of the value of the elderly in our society. The event was complemented by an abundance of cake, sweets, light snacks, treats and warm beverages. Members from the 52 Metro Police Division were in attendance as special guests. They helped serving beverages, proved information, and contributed to a friendly atmosphere. The Lions Club District A-711 was represented by past Lion Governor Harold Hobson, Zone Chair Sandy Heeralal-Judhan, and Carol McCague. Lion Members from the University of Toronto Campus were also on hand to assist. We were fortunate to receive a donation of 200 paper bags from McDonalds for the distribution of the gifts. Special thanks to all who arrived, and served.

The Lions Club of Toronto (Central) recently began supporting the Toronto Outreach Newspaper program with financial support, and regular publications on updates on the club's service programs, and activity in the Toronto community. This newspaper has fallen on hard times from an increasing competition of free newspapers in Toronto. We believe the free distribution of this newspaper provides a positive impact to the homeless morally, and financially.

LION MELVIN JONES BIRTHDAY CELLEBRATIONS AT THE NATIVE CANADIAN CENTRE OF TORONTO
The Lions Club of Toronto (Central) celebrated the 136th anniversary of Melvin Jones birth day with the Canadian First Nation community by donating warm clothes for adults, and toys to the children. Lion Douglas Lowry also donated beautiful ladies night wear in memory of his late mother.
The meaning of service to humanity is summarized in the words of Melvin Jones, "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else" .The Indian lore is rich in wisdom expressive of the same, and we chose to celebrate this event with them. The Ojibwa Prayer to the Great Spirit said it the best:
Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to every one
Hear me,
I come to you as one of your many children;
I am week … I am small … and I need all your wisdom
And all your strength
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
behold the red and purple sunsets.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
And my ears sharp so that I may hear your voice/
Make me wise so that I may understand what you,
Have taught my people, and
The lesson you have hidden in each leaf,
And in each rock.
I ask for the wisdom and strength
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able
I ask for wisdom and strength,
Make me ever ready to come before you with
Clean hands, and straight eye,
So as life fades away as a fading sunset,
My spirit my come to you without shame.
“May you always walk in beauty”
There were plenty of cakes to honor the occasion.
This was also a special day for the Lion Slava, the president of the Lions Club of Toronto (Central). It marked the 45 years of her family’s arrival in Canada. Lion Slava, and her sister Sylvia celebrated their anniversary by making donations to the Canadian Native Community Centre
