Lions Out in Force for Lions Awareness Day
Lions love to lend a helping hand and care for the environment and as part of Lions Awareness Day (March 4), Toongabbie Seven Hills Lions provided FREE reusable Organic Cotton Produce Bags, Mesh Bags and Bread Bags near Toongabbie Creek.
Many of us know that natural materials like cotton are the best for storing produce. The bags are easy to wash and you can reuse them, making them durable and long-lasting, plus they are also biodegradable, so you can toss them into your compost bin at the end of their life.
No more ripping a single-use plastic bag off the roll in the shops or juggling loose fruit at the checkout, as Lions were providing Organic Cotton Produce bags at Friends of Toongabbie Creek Clean Up Australia Day. This cuts down on plastic waste and reduces one-time use products such as the film plastic bags.
Here’s a little tip if you are storing your fruit and vegies in the fridge … remember to start by dampening a cotton bag, put them into the bag and place them in the crisper of your fridge, as this helps to keep your produce fresh and crunchy.
Another benefit is that cotton bags are breathable so your veggies won’t go mushy and will last longer, this will save you money and also limit food waste. Another great idea for the bags is they can be used as Library Bags for the school children.
