OKLAHOMA LIONS MEADOWS OF HOPE

http://www.olbr.org

The Village Lions support the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch , which is now the Oklahoma Lions Meadows of Hope;south of Perkins, Oklahoma.  Tthe Meadows of Hope is a Foster Home Community consistss of five homes on campus plus about 6 more homes in suronding communities.    Each Foster Parent house has two house parrents, one who is working in the community, and one stay-at-home, plus up to six children, both boys and girls.  It is hoped that these homes will enable families to stay together instead of being separated as in the Boys Ranch system.  The major project of the Meadows of Hope at this time is a Fifteen Million Dollar Fundraising project to construct a Community Center/Office/Counciling Center plus endouwments to suport the program.

OKLAHOMA LIONS EYE BANK: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

http://www.oklionsfoundation.org/eyebank.html

The Village Lions supports the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank.  The purpose of the Eye Bank is the recovery of corneas which are then provided to physicians for use in Cornea Replacement Surgery.  In 1925, Hellen Keller challenged Lions to become Knights for the Blind.  This is one of the ways in which we have become Knights.  During 2014 the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank tore down the 4000 sq ft Eye Bank building and built a 5000 sq ft building.  This new building better serves the need of the Eye Bank.

LIONS MOBIL HEALTH SCREENING PROJECT

http://www.oklionsfoundation.org/mobilhealth.html

At least once a year the Village Lions Club provides the Health Screening Trailer at a location in the Village.  As Knights for the Blind we provide screening for glaucoma and an eye test to see if glasses are needed.  Additional health screenings are a bone density test for women over 40 to test for osteoporosis, blood sugar testing for diabites, and colestrol screening.  TheVillage Lions are interested in having a population in good health.

VILLAGE LIONS CLUB LOCAL PROJECTS

EYE EXAMS AND GLASSES

The Village Lions provide eye exams and needed glasses for needy persons in The Village and surrounding areas.  Kooresh Shirallie at 405-348-3481 is the contact Person at The Village Lions Club for eye glasses.

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING

The Village Lions supports the Salvation Army by going Bell Ringing once a year at the Walmart Neighborhood Market in The Village.  We rang Bells in November 2014.

BRITVILL FOOD PANTRY

The Village Lions support the BritVill Food pantry in its mission to provide food for those in need.  The Pantry was formed by several churches from the Britton and Village areas, and thus became BritVill.  Besides one of our members being a volunteer at the pantry, we provide a contribution each Fall and Spring.  The Fall contribution was made in November 2015 for $250.00.  In addition on the Saturday before Thanksgiving of 2013 and 2014, the Club provided members to help BritVill hand out at least 600 Turkeys by directing trafic, handing out turkeys, and other tasks as needed.

COATS FOR KIDS

http://www.ycjusd.ridgeview.schoolfusion.us/

The Village Lions works with a Special Education Teacher at Ridgeview Elementary School to provide needed coats.  The school tells us how many coats are needed, and in what sizes and whether for a boy or girl.  We then purchase them from a local store.  In 2013 the club purchased 60 coats and in 2014 we purchased 30 coats due to a reduction in need.

ANNUAL AUTO SHOW:  MAJOR FUND RAISER

The Village Lions major fund raiser of the year is their annual Auto Show in conjuction with local Automobile Clubs.  Up to 200 automobiles participate each year in 30 different categories.  First and Second Place Trophys are provided in most of the categories along with "Best of Show", "Mayor's Trophy", "Best Paint", and "Best Art".  Each entrant receives a door prize, plus three special door prizes are given: $2000., $1000., and $500.  The club raises money through major sponsorships to provide for expensses, entry fees, 50-50 raffel, and proceeds from the drink tent which sells water and soft drinks.  Vendors sell Hamburgers and Hot Dogs.  We have just engaged in our Ninth Annual Show.  The proceeds which the club receives supports the projects listed above.  Our Pat Harrington Memorial Tenth Annual Automobile Show will be August 22, 2015, with a rain delay date to be determined.
