LIONS CLUB OF THANE KOPRI has been conducting various service activities in following areas :

Sight First camps

This is a thrust activity of our club. Every month atleast one eye screening camp is organized in poor locality and spectacles are distributed at nominal cost. Patients detected with cataract are operated free of cost. We also organize eye donation awareness drives in community. Till date we have conducted apprx. 5000 free cataract surgeries and 400 eye balls have been collected by attending to eye donation phone calls

Healthcare

We conduct multidiagnostic checkup camps for the poor and provide free consultation . Checkups cover gynaec , ECG and general health of the patients. Blood checkup camps are organized which cover diabetes screening, blood group and haemoglobin. Regular blood donation drives are organized.

Independence Day Celebrations at Thane Mental Hospital

Every year on 15^th August our Club Members join the inmates of Thane Mental Hospital and celebrate Independence Day with them. Our members conduct antakshari and quiz competition for the inmates and award them with prizes for participation. The inmates of the hospital present a cultural programme. Our club donates an item or articles of their need on this occasion.

Education

Our club provides uniforms, books , bags and study material to children of poor schools in Thane. We also support students of Bharat Night school who work during the day and study at night.

Lions Quest

This programme helps the teenagers to learn to differentiate between good and bad, adopt positive attitudes in life, remain away from bad effects of life, respect elders in family and outside, absorb peer pressure and develop as a responsible citizen. Teachers are trained in a 3-day workshop who then teach student in schools/ neighborhood. Our Club was pioneer in starting the project in our District through Teacher’s Training workshop in Thane in the year 1993.

Help the Handicapped

We provide calipers and crutches, Jaipur Foot, Wheel Chair and tricycles to needy patients. We provide footwear to needy leprosy patients and equipments required by

blind.

International Peace Poster Competition

This Competition is conducted in school as per guidelines from Lions International. A 2 day Exhibition of the poster drawn by children is held every year to promote peace and talent.

Child welfare and destitute children

Our club members regularly visits orphanages especially during festivals and provide food and entertainment to the children. In addition we also fulfill their other requirements like foodgrains , school bags, clothes,toys etc

Healthy Mother Healthy Baby

Our member Lion Dr Madhuri Sakhardande provides antenatal services to poor pregnant women at 50% concession . She provides consultancy throughout the pregnancy and also delivers babies of these needy mothers at concessional prices. Aim is to offer affordable and best care to these pregnant women

Adivasi upliftment

Our club has sponsored mass marriages of adivasis in Jawahar region. We have also worked in wada region to improve the health of women and children in the area.

Borewell and check dams have been constructed to solve their water issue. We have provided solar panels to ashramshala in murbad. We have helped in digitalisation of Zilla Parishad Schools

Lectures for adolescent children on sexuality

We conduct free lectures in schools on "Health and care in Adolscence". This covers topics related to sexuality education and care they need to take.

Paediatric Cancer

We provide grocery, meals, nutrition, toys, games to children affected by cancer. We spend time with them and entertain them

Women empowerment

We have organized training programs for poor women and help them to earn a livelihood by donating sewing machines on regular basis. We have also donated many sewing machines to women rescued from red light areas and helped them to start earning alternate income

Care for homeless

We provide blankets and groceries to the homeless. We have also provided bunk beds to TMC managed homeless shelter in Thane

Diabetes check up camps

Our club is working on detection of diabetes. We conduct multiple free random blood sugar and HBA1C camps every month

Environment

We conduct tree plantation drive every year. We have also conducted free PUC checkup camps for vehicles

Senior citizens are honored on world elders day. They are entertained through variety entertainment programs. We also provide grocery , diapers and items requested by senior citizens home
