The 29th Annual Tewksbury Lions Charity Golf Tournament will be held on July 27th, 2015 at the Campbell Scottish Highlands Golf Course. We need foursomes. Get your foursome together and contact Lion Al Hubbard at (978) 658-2864.
Following the Tournament, at 5:00 PM, we will be having a BALL DROP at Strongwater Farm on Livingston Street in Tewksbury. A helicopter will drop numbered golf balls onto a pre setup target. Chances will be only $ 10.00 each, and a maximum of 500 tickets will be sold. The prize for nearest ball to the hole will be $1,000.00. Our Club will be participating in the Tewksbury Memorial Day Parade on May 25th. We will be walking and riding with the Lions float. Tewksbury Lions are encouraged to come and participate with the Club in the Parade.

…founder of Tewksbury Funeral Home; 93
TEWKSBURY - Walter Joseph Deputat, age 93, the founder of Tewksbury Funeral Home, died peacefully on Saturday morning, May 16, at Lowell General’s Saints Campus, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Gloria A. (Roux) Deputat, with whom he had celebrated their seventy-third wedding anniversary this past March 18. He was born on the family farm on Princeton Street in North Chelmsford, in July 1921, the last of six children of the late Walter John and Teofila (Serwicka) Deputat, and was raised in North Chelmsford. He graduated from Chelmsford High School, and enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Force. While in Bombardier training in Arizona, his “warbride” joined him and they were married in Tucson. He was assigned to the 322nd Bomb Group in North Africa, and served in Libya, Tunisia, Sicily and Italy during the campaign to liberate Italy and Europe. He was awarded many medals and citations, including a Presidential Citation, Air Medal, six Oak Leaf Clusters, and finally the Distinguished Flying Cross, after being credited for fifty missions over occupied Europe in B-24 “Liberator” Heavy Bombers. Upon early discharge from the Air Corps, he returned to Tewksbury, and using the G.I. Bill enrolled in the New England Institute for Funeral Service. After working in several Lowell funeral homes, he with the tireless support of his wife, Gloria, opened the Tewksbury Funeral Home in 1957. Walter gave freely of his time and treasure to the community, as a Charter and Life Member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge, 2070, a Charter Member of the Tewksbury Lions Club, a Charter Member of the former Tewksbury Businessmen’s Association, and was a former member of the American Legion Post 259, the V.F.W. Post 8164, the Fr. Coppen’s Council Knights of Columbus, the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, and the Tewksbury Veteran’s Association. Professionally, he was a former member of the Massachusetts and National Funeral Director’s Associations. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Award by the Tewksbury Lions Club, was honored to have been the voice of the “little guy” on the Board of Advisors to the Former BayBank of Massachusetts, and recognized by the Senate and House of Massachusetts for his many accomplishments during his lifetime upon his retirement in 1983. He loved to golf, experienced a “hole in one” at Dodgertown G.C. in Vero, enjoyed entertaining at the “camp” on Big Island Pond in Atkinson, NH, loved Bridge at the Community Center at Rockridge in Vero, and would choose American Chop Suey over Lobster or Steak every time. He loved every minute spent in the company of his family, and was known for his long conversations, and unusual insights into all things, big or small. He and Gloria retired to Vero Beach, and later Sebastian, Florida, where they resided for twenty-five happy years, returning to Tewksbury six years ago due to advancing years and health issues. Through successful bouts with several forms of cancer to double amputations due to diabetes, Walter maintained an independent spirit, keen sense of humor, and most importantly his sharp mental faculties until his passing on Saturday. He touched many lives in a positive way, and his family is grateful for the outpouring of love and the support expressed by friends and colleagues since his passing. Walter said he “had lived a full and blessed life,” and was ready when God called. Walter was a communicant of St. William’s in Tewksbury, Holy Cross in Vero Beach, and St. Sebastian’s in Sebastian, FL. Besides “the bride,” Gloria, he leaves three children, John and his wife Roberta (Pace-Nocco) Deputat, Gail Anne Graham and her husband Ret. Dept. Fire Chief James J. Graham, and Joel and his wife Deborah Ann (DiCiaccio-Fee) Deputat all of Tewksbury; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle (Graham) and Jason Guthrie of Atlanta, GA, James “Jay” and Katie Graham of Reno, NV, Dennis and Kara Graham of Tewksbury, Julianne (Graham) and Evan Morse of Groton, MA, Joseph Deputat of Tewksbury, Michael and Nikki Deputat of Manchester, NH, Christopher Deputat of Tyngsboro, Lisa Nocco of Tewksbury, Steven and Jannine Nocco of Tyngsboro; fourteen great grandchildren, Graham, Garrett, Gabriella, Isabel, Finn, Quinton, Keegan, Lochlan, Sawyer, Emma, Cassie, Molly, Kyle, and Kristine; sister-in-law, Elaine Stephens of Chelmsford; brothers-in-law, Victor Roux and Eugene Roux and Ann all of Tewksbury; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his brothers and sisters and their spouses; Isadore and Eleanor Nawossa, Edward and Jennie Deputat, Sophie and Edward Olasz, Joseph and Elizabeth Deputat, Blanche and Philip Collins. Governor Joni Cherbinis Baptiste was the speaker at our April 22nd regular meeting. She applauded our Club for being the number SIX Club in the State in TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Mass Lions Eye Research with over $300,000.
The Governor also presented letters and pins to several of our Lions for significant anniversaries of membership in Lionism. They are as follows: Walter Deputat-60 years (WOW !!); Bob Fowler-35 years; Dave Perry-30 years; Dan Emerson-25 years (where did they go?); John Deputat-20 years; and Tom Platz-15 years.
Gov. Joni also presented one of her own banners to President Sherry for a great year.
In addition, we held our election for next years officers and Lion Of The Year. A big congratulations to King Lion Sherry Hubbard for being elected to yet another year as President of the Club. Of course, the person elected by his/her peers as Lion Of The Year will be announced at the Installation of the new officers. A list of the new officers follow:

At our March 11th meeting, a new Lion was accepted and installed. His name is Jerry Selissen, and the Club is very pleased to welcome him. We are sad to report the death of longtime Tewksbury Lion Sal Ciaccio. We will miss him. Rest in Peace, Sal. Following is his Obituary:
Salvatore J. "Sal" Ciaccio
Founder of Sal's Machine Tool Company
TEWKSBURY: Salvatore J. "Sal" Ciaccio, age 90, a resident of Tewksbury for 62 years, formerly of Medford, passed away with his family at his side, on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Tewksbury Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Marie E. (DiTroia) Ciaccio, who passed away on May 22, 1999.
Born in Medford on July 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Vincenzo Ciaccio and the late Florence (DeLeo) Ciaccio.
Sal was raised in Medford and attended Medford Vocational Trade School and immediately
enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during World War II until 1946 with an honorable discharge. He received Amphibious Training in Fort Pierce and then served in US Nav. Group, China. He was part of the Third Navy's Scouts and Raiders group, which were the precursors of today's Navy Seals. The Third Scout and Raiders organization deployed to fight with the Sino-American Cooperative Organization (SACO) in China. Admiral Ernest J. King ordered that 120 officers and 900 enlisted sailors be trained for "Amphibious Raider" at the Scout and Raider school at Fort Pierce, Florida in order to support this mission. They formed the core of what was envisioned as a "guerrilla amphibious organization of Americans and Chinese operating from coastal waters, lakes and rivers employing small steamboats and sampans." Elements of the Third Scouts and Raiders saw active service conducting surveys of the upper Yangtze River in the spring of 1945 and, disguised as coolies, conducting a detailed three-month survey of the Chinese coast from Shanghai to Kitchioh Wan, near Hong Kong. The majority of the force remained garrisoned at Camp Knox in Calcutta, India. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
After many years working as a machinist and then a field service engineer for Hebert Machine, he founded Sal's Machine Tool Company in Tewksbury, which he operated for 15 years.
Sal served on the Board of Trustees at the Tewksbury Hospital for over 20 years, and was a longtime member of the Tewksbury Lions Club.
An avid golfer, Sal was a member of the Long Meadow Golf Club. In addition, he was a member of the "Fire Eaters" bowling team at the former Wamesit Bowling Alley.
Sal and his late wife Marie, enjoyed traveling to Jupiter, Florida and spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee at Sandy Point in Alton Bay. He looked forward to attending the annual reunions of SACO members throughout the country.
He is survived by three children, Linda M. Traub and her husband Stephen of Newburyport, James A. Ciaccio and his wife Susan (Deacon) of Tewksbury and Stephen M. Ciaccio and his wife Karen (Fitzsimmons) of Nashua, NH; six grandchildren, Kimberly A. Hawkins of Concord, NH, Meredith E. Gertz and her husband Anthony of Nashua, NH, Stacey L. Lawrie of Haverhill, Jonathan D. Lawrie and his wife Molly (Baker) of Wilton, NH, Gina A. Ciaccio of Tewksbury and Anthony J. Ciaccio and his wife Jessica (Joubert) of Lowell; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings and family.
Sal was the brother of the late Pauline Fernandez.
Calling hours are Tuesday, March 3rd, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 4th, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sal's memory may be made to the Patients Fund at Tewksbury Hospital, 365 East St. Tewksbury, MA 01876

The Guest Speaker at our last meeting was Patti Lessard from the Strongwater Farm. Patti gave a great presentation about the farm, which services many types of individuals who benefit from the support provided by their therapeutic riding programs. Their clients range from the Autistic, patients with dementia, to the Military returning from active duty abroad. Strongwater farm strongly supports the Wounded Warriors Project and Horses for Heroes.
They have a full range of Programs which you can see at strongwaterfarm.org. We thank Patti for taking time to speak to our Club.

TEWKSBURY - Frank "Cris" Criscitello, 93, of Endwell, NY, died peacefully on January 1, 2015. He was born in Binghamton, NY, on September 29, 1921, to the late Frank C. and Monarca (Matias) Criscitello. After serving 26 years in the US Army during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Cris retired as a Master Sergeant.
While living in Tewksbury, he was very active in the community. He held every elected position in the Tewksbury Lions Club, was named Lion of the Year, and was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship. Cris was a charter member of the Fr. Coppen's Knights of Columbus and the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks. He was Commander of VFW Post 8164 twice and Commander of the Billerica DAV Post 46 three times. He was a member of the Tewksbury DAV Post 110, served as the Massachusetts State Junior Vice-Commander of the DAV, and was a member of the Am Vets and the American Legion. Cris also served 12 years on the board of the Tewksbury Council on Aging. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he genuinely loved people, his family, and his country.
Cris was predeceased by Elsa A. (Mozgo) Criscitello, his wife of 56 years; his sisters, Pauline Criscitello and Jane Hannon; his brother James Criscitello; and his grandson Ryan Criste.
He is survived by his sisters: Antoinette (Harold) Schaffer and Nancy (Fred) Booth; his brother: Joseph (Darlene) Criscitello; brother-in-law: his children: Sharon (Bill) Francis-Bennett, Elsa Marsh, Frances Herr, Mary (Edmund) Dorazio, Frank Criscitello, Paula (Joseph) Criste, Carol Criscitello, Pamela Criscitello, and Susan (Kevin) Criste; 14 grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; a "son" and friend, Jeffrey Lambert; as well as many close friends.
Cris is also survived by his present wife, Marie Laura (Damato) Criscitello, of Endwell, NY; children: Ralph (Sandra) Damato; Deborah (Tim) Waterman; Robert (Gail) Damato; Mark (Tracy) Damato; and Maria (John) Hasenauer; and numerous grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8, from 4 to 7pm at the Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey corner of 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Friday, Jan. 9, at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury, MA. The one and only Ray Paquin presented his "Re-Roast of Lion Frank Criscitello”. The original roast was presented on October 11, 2006 with “Cris" present. Unfortunately, Cris is currently ill, now lives in New York state, and was not present.
As usual, Ray did a great presentation, and various tributes from other Lions present were paid to Frank. We all wish “Cris” well and hope that his health returns soon.
Ron Hall attended a meeting last week about the Habitat For Humanity’s plans to build a home in Tewksbury, and updated the rest of the Club. Ron stated that over 100 people attended the meeting, and great interest in town participation was shown. The Tewksbury Lions are working on plans to participate in this worthy undertaking. TEWKSBURY - L. Charles “Charlie” Priest, Jr., age 76, a U.S.A.F. Veteran and a well known member of the Tewksbury community, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 15, from an apparent heart attack. He was the beloved husband of Janette L. (Costello) Priest, with whom he had celebrated a 54th wedding anniversary this past September 4th. Charlie was born October 25, 1937 in Cambridge, the son of Lucian Charles and Alice M. (Corwin) Priest, and was raised in Cambridge and Charlestown. He graduated from Boston English High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University’s Engineering School. Charlie was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, His work as a manufacturing engineer began at Honeywell in Lowell, and he also worked at Digital Equipment Company in Acton and Salem, NH, before moving to Eptac in Manchester where he retired as a technical teacher. He also taught several courses at U-Mass, Lowell. He was past President of the Tewksbury Lions Club, and was also Past President of the American Society of Quality Control Association. His favorite pastime, was time spent on his porch at his “cabin in the woods” in Francistown, NH. Charlie was predeceased by his son, John C. Priest in 2008, and leaves a niece, Susan Candelora and her three children, Jessica, Thomas “T.J.” and Christopher; a sister-in-law, Barbara Costello of FL; and many cousins and beloved friends throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire. Relatives and friends will be received Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1:00 until 4:00 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. Our Guest Speaker at our October 8th meeting was PP Marcel Plouffe of the Lowell Lions Club. Marcel is also a Director for Mass Lions Eye Research Fund (MLERF), and presented our Club with a Certificate of Appreciation for our 2013/2014 year contribution. He also mentioned that our Club has contributed over $ 300,000 to MLERF since our inception. Marcel was speaking about the progress and technological advances made in Eye Research over the years, and how communication improvements between researchers all over the world has made that progress even faster. We thank Marcel for taking the time to come and speak to us.

The guest speaker at our September 24th meeting was Mr. Nelson Smith. Nelson spoke on behalf of The TCM Therapy Center of Tewksbury. TCM specializes in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This includes Acupuncture, Foot Reflexology, and Body Work. This type of medicine evolved in the Orient over the past 5000 years to prevent and manage disease. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former Tewksbury Lion Chet Kowalczyk. We send our sincere condolences to his wife Mary, and his adult children Keith and Tracy. He will be missed.
Obituary Announcement for Chester J. Kowalczyk, Jr.
Chester J. Kowalczyk, Jr. a resident of New Port Richey, FL and formerly a resident of Tewksbury, MA passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 14, 2014.
Born in Methuen, Massachusetts on September 26, 1939, Chester was the only son of Helen and Chester J. Kowalczyk, Sr. who predeceased him. He graduated from English High School and Bentley University in Massachusetts. Chet lived in Tewksbury Massachusetts for over thirty years and moved to New Port Richey, Florida, when he retired. He was a past officer of the Tewksbury Lions Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. While living in Florida he was the Treasurer of his community’s homeowner’s association and a board member of the Suncoast Massachusetts Club.
He is survived by his sweetheart of fifty four years, Mary (Thomas) Kowalczyk and his beloved family. His son, Keith A. Kowalczyk of Hollywood, California, his daughter, Tracy Barchard and her husband Albert, and his precious granddaughter Kayla, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He also leaves a sister, Rosemary Cristadoro, two nieces and a nephew, Justine Cristadoro, Sunny Groom and Kenneth Cristadoro all of Louisiana. Lily, his little Bichon was always by his side and ready to play.
Chet really enjoyed the leisurely Florida lifestyle, enjoying walks on the beach, cruises, sailing and peppermint patties. He loved theatre, concerts and was a true jazz enthusiast. Chet was always a gentleman and a gentle man who cared deeply about his family and friends.
A memorial service is being held in Florida. A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held by the family in Massachusetts.

Sorrowfully we must report the passing of Barbara Hall, spouse of Tewksbury Lion Ron Hall. Following is a copy of her obituary and the arrangements:
Barbara Louise (Cross) (Hartford) (Gayhart) Hall, 65, of Belleair Bluffs, FL wife of Ronald A. Hall, went to heaven August 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chelsea, MA to the late Walter J. Sr. and Phyllis L. (Barnes) Cross, March 9, 1949. Barbara graduated from Peabody High, School, Peabody, MA in 1967. She worked at Suncoast Hospital in Largo, Florida until her retirement and her seasonal move to Clintonville, WI with her late husband Robert E. Gayhart. Barbara was passionate about her country, traveling, and life. Barbara spent her time making memories with her family. Barbara enjoyed her holidays with her children and grandchildren. If there was one thing she lived for it was her family. There was never enough time together. Barbara loved to fish, dance, laugh, play cards. When we played Monopoly we called her “Barbara Trump”. What made her the happiest was being together during the holidays. When reading this you should learn to live and to love, and to not take time for granted. Please stop and look to your right and left and hug your family today! Time is shorter than you think… We love you to the moon and back!
She is survived by her newlywed husband Ron, her everlasting loving children, son Joshua W. Hartford, wife Theresa E. of Apollo Beach, FL, daughter Jessica and her husband Noel G. Dobbin of Palm Harbor, FL. Grandchildren, Callan R. and her husband Justin R. Sibson of Southport, NC, Amanda E. Hartford of Apollo Beach, FL, Megan D. Moore, Emily A. Moore and Sean T. Dobbin of Palm Harbor, FL. Barbara was a Great-Grandmother to Rylan Elizabeth-Louise Sibson and Keiran Noel Dobbin, her brother Walter J. Cross Jr. of Lake George, Co. . She also leaves Ron’s children, Melissa Hall and her sons Ayden and Jaxon of Tewksbury, MA and Jennifer Hall of Lowell, MA and her sister-in-law and dear friends Cheryl A. Hartford and Luanne Perry. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested that donations be made out to the American Cancer Society for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00pm at the National Cremation Society, 4945 East Bay Drive, Clearwater.
A memorial service will be held in Massachusetts at a date and time to be announced.

Ruth Irene Perry TEWKSBURY: Ruth Irene (Hoey) Perry, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 49 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Beloved wife of Retired Tewksbury Police Detective, H. David Perry. They would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on September 8, 2014. Born in Somerville on June 25, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William B. Hoey and the late Hazel I. (Cooke) Hoey. She attended St. Theresa's grammar school in Somerville and St. Mary's High School in Cambridge, graduating with the Class of 1959. Following high school, Ruth attended Mount Auburn School of Nursing. She worked for over 20 years at the New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn prior to her retirement in 1995. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, wintering in Florida, playing shuffle board, cooking, sewing and camping. In addition to her husband, Dave, she is survived by her children, Jeffrey Perry of Dracut, daughter-in-law, Karen Perry of Westford, Tewksbury Police Sergeant Mark Perry and his wife Carrie, of Lowell, Kimberly Silk and her husband, Stephen, of North Andover, Deborah Guttadauro and her husband, Tewksbury Fire Dept. Lieutenant, Paul Guttadauro of Tewksbury, and David Perry and his wife, Karen, of N. Andover; twelve grandchildren, Brad and Allie Perry, Dustin (Janelle), Stephanie, Jake and Julia Silk, Kelsey, Cortny and Kara Guttadauro, William, Andrew and Caroline Perry; her siblings, William B. Hoey, Jr., Marie Cimetti, Judith Chisholm, Carol Anderson, the late Charles Hoey, Noreen Farrar, Gail Garda, Elaine Dold, Robert Hoey, Richard Hoey, and Teresa Kupris; her best friends, Sandy and Joey DeLucia,; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lulu. Calling hours are Friday, August 8, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Services will take place on Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. The 28th Annual Tewksbury Lions Golf Tournament was held at the Campbell Scottish Highlands Golf Course, in Salem, NH, on Monday, July 28th. Although the course was very cloudy and rainy, the players dispositions were very sunny. As a result, it appeared that every one had a great time.

Our President Sherry Hubbard and Club Secretary Peter Orsula received awards for "All Star" performances for the past year at the District 33N 4th District Advisory meeting on May 29th. Our Growler Bulletin Editor, Mary Iannuzzo, also received an "All Star" Bulletin Editor reward, but was not present. All attending received District 33N car magnets as a gif from outgoing District Governor Jeanne Farrow. Thank you, Governor. Attending for Our Club were King Lion Sherry, VP Allen Hubbard, Club Treasurer Tom Platz, Club Secretary Peter Orsula, and Club Webmaster Dan Emerson.

Mr. Bob Hayes, Technical Services Librarian, from the Tewksbury Public Library, was our Guest Speaker at our May 28th regular meeting.
A great Memorial Day and a great parade. The Tewksbury Lions participated in the Tewksbury Memorial Day Parade with the Lions float, the furry wandering Lion, and seven members of our Club plus several grandchildren. The participating Tewksbury Lions were King Lion Sherry Hubbard, VP Allen Hubbard, her spouse, and their terrific candy tossin’ granddaughters. Lion John Deputat also brought along several of his granddaughters to help toss candy to the onlookers, along with his grandson, Kyle, who is the best furry Lion in all of Tewksbury; just ask the onlooking kids (adults as well) who shared a “high five” or two with him. Lions Peter Orsula, Joan Toscano, and Dan Emerson rounded out the troupe, all skillfully driven by Lion Dave Gath. A good time was had by all !! Thanks to all who participated to celebrate this very special day in honor of all those who served in our Armed Forces, especially those who paid the ultimate price to keep us free.

The speaker at our meeting on April 23 was Dan Harty, of Covanta Energy, who spoke about Recycling; in particular the recycling of products containing mercury. Thermometers, some thermostats, button-cell batteries, blood pressure cuffs, fluorescent and high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, mercurochrome, barometers etc. contain mercury and require special disposal. Mercury does not break down in the environment; it is “persistent” and builds up in the food chain (bioaccumulates).
Mr Harty travels around Massachusetts and arranges special days in towns to receive the disposal of those items which require special handling. Covanta owns several incinerators that many towns use to dispose of their trash. Tewksbury is one of those towns.
Mr. Harty was quite interesting and informative, and we appreciate him speaking to our Club.

On April 9th, the Tewksbury Lions once again participated in the Tewksbury Seniors Center Annual Health Fair. The Eyemobile was there to offer eye exams to those who wished to have their eyes checked. Dr.Mike Sandberg was on hand to provide his expertise. We had many takers and were able to detect a few people who were encouraged to see their own Opthimologists. Those Lions participating were Charlie Priest, Ray Paquin, Fred Baldwin, Dan Emerson, Joan Toscano, Sherry Hubbard, Al Hubbard, and John Deputat. Thanks to all the participants. Also thanks to Chris Hubbard and Lion Armand Langlois who came to our aid in “jump starting” the Eyemobile, which needed new batteries.

Lest I forget, a BIG "Tip Of The Lions Cap" to our King Lion Sherry Hubbard, who also received an award for bringing in four new member to our Club this past year. I believe the certificate reads "one new member", but she is actually responsible for four this past year. Congratulations President Sherry!!

The speakers at our last meeting, District Governor Jeanne Farrow and PDG/CST Randy Pinch, both spoke of our Club’s generous donations to Mass Lions Eye Research Fund, and thanked our Club for contributing $353,000 over the years. PDG/CST Randy is also 1st VP of MLERF, and assured us that any Lion, or Lion relative, with a serious eye problem should contact him, and he will do his best to get them quick and quality medical help. DG Jeanne reinforced that Lions should wear the “Just Ask” pins to stimulate inquiries about joining Lionism, and cited a few examples of how they resulted in new Lion members. She also presented several certificates commemorating Lion membership year landmarks. The most impressive was our own Financial Secretary Fred Baldwin, with 55 years in the Tewksbury Lions Club. Congratulations Fred !!! We thank our speakers for taking time to spend with our Club

Lion Marcel, as Director of Mass Lions Eye Research, presented a Certificate Of Appreciation to the Club for the $5000 contribution made to Mass Lions Eye Research for 2013. He mentioned that the Tewksbury Lions have contributed over $350,000 to Mass Eye Research over the years. Something in which we should take great pride!! He also mentioned, as Chairperson for the District 33N 2014 Walkathon, that he was looking for participants and donors for the event.
First Vice District Governor Joni spoke about her history with the Lions, and applauded the efforts of the Tewksbury Lions over the past years. She encouraged Lions donations to Lions International to help stamp out Measles around the world.
We thank both speakers for taking the time to speak with our Club.

On Saturday, December 7th, The Tewksbury Lions Club is helping to staff the TJ Callahan's food table at The Tewksbury Library.
This event is a fundraiser for the Tewksbury Food Pantry, and is highlighted by the lighting of the town Christmas Tree, on the Tewksbury Common, at 6:45pm.
Many of your favorite local vendors will there, offering their wares for sale for your Holiday needs. The Tree Lighting Fair is open from 2pm to 7pm.
Be there to help support those who need help at this joyous time of year.

Jayne and Peter spoke about their Tewksbury Rail Trails group, which is exploring the possibilities of turning the old, unused railroad tracks in Tewksbury into bike and walking trails. They have been awarded $35,000 by the town to research these possibilities. Most of the town officials and organizations support this effort. We thank Jayne and Peter for their interesting presentation.

Coats for Kids Drive
It's that time of year again....Anton's Cleaners and the Lions Clubs are co-sponsoring the Coats for Kids campaign from October 14, 2013 through January 11, 2014. Bring gently used coats in all sizes (babies - adults) to Anton's Cleaners and mention you are donating on behalf of the Tewksbury Lions Club or bring them to a meeting and we will ensure they get properly distributed. The goal this year is 60,000 coats.
"Stake and Chikin'" Cookout for Tewksbury Lions and Spouses
We had a great time at the annual Tewksbury Lions Cookout, held at the fantastic garage of Lion John and spouse Roberta Deputat. Once again, Roberta did a great job supervising John in the garage cleanup prior to cookout day. We can thank John for procurring the food, and John and Lion Carl Swenson for the great cooking. Many others helped to make the event a great success.
Charter member Lion Walter Deputat, and our other senior member, Lion Fred Baldwin, were also in attendance. Lion Fred took the photos which follow. Thanks to all who made this such a fun event, and to all those who attended. It was easy to see why this a favorite event for the Club.

Memorial Day Parade
Thanks to those Lions, and their grandchildren, who participated in the presentation of our float in the Tewksbury Memorial Day Parade. A special thanks to Kyle, our fantastic LION, and to Lions Sherry and Al Hubbard, and Lion John Deputat, who prepared the float for the parade. Also special thanks to Lion David Gath, who volunteered his truck and time to pull our float through the parade. A grand time was had by all !!
