Message in a Bottle
Our Autumn 2011 Project
We launched our “Message in a Bottle” Project on Monday 3rd Oct 2011 at 7.30pm in the Fingal County Council Offices, Main St, Swords. The Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly TD and the Mayor of Fingal Cllr Gerry McGuire attended.
Our Club is being assisted with this by Swords Community Gardai (Police), the Area Fire and Ambulance Services and Fingal County Council which has its Headquarters here in Swords. We are also involving the local HSE Nursing and Home Care services, Doctors, Chemists, Senior Citizens Centres, Clergy, St Vincent de Paul, the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels to support and assist the project.
Message in a Bottle is an Emergency Information Scheme. It simply directs the emergency services to information stored in a plastic bottle which is kept in the fridge. Ideally for vulnerable people or those with a medical condition they simply enter their details on the form inside the bottle. It will include a photograph, health details, emergency contact, doctor, whether there are pets that need looking after and much more which will assist the Emergency Services.
This scheme is free to the user. Swords Lions Club provides the bottles. As a minimum it will save the Emergency Services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their friends and families.
