What are the requirements to be a Lion?

All that is required is a desire to share your time and talents, through fundraising and service within our community.

What does a Lions Club actually do?

We fundraise and use those funds to support needs within our community and surrounding areas.  We provide service such as helping at Feed My Starving Children, participate in a community service event or make a donation to help where there is a need.  You will often hear it said, “where there is a need there is a lion.”   Being together at a meeting or event is also a time for fellowship and fun.  Do you  have a passion for a project?  We would love to hear it and determine if we can support it.

How much time is involved?

We want our members to participate in meetings, fundraising and service activities as much as possible. But all realize that family comes first, then work, and then the Lions Club.  Think about your capacity to participate and the reward of giving back.

Paying to volunteer! What’s that about?

Any volunteer organization needs to provide insurance, services and support to its Clubs and members. That’s why members pay a small amount in annual dues.  We are proud of the fact that every cent earned through fundraising or donations goes back into the community in some way.  The club takes ZERO.  Compare that with other organizations.

Why are there 2 Lions Clubs in South St Paul?

The SSP Lions Club was chartered in 1946, a men's organization.  In 1986 they sponsored the Southwest Lioness, a women’s organization.  In 2020 Lions International deemed that Lioness Club members needed to become Lions.  Some Lioness Clubs disbanded, others merged with existing Lions clubs in their community;  and others, like the Southwest Lioness moved forward. In 2021 the SSP Southwest Lioness Lions Club was chartered maintaining its traditions of the last 36 years.   The 2 clubs in SSP continue to function separately and differently but we come together for some events and support each other.

How can I join the SSP Southwest Lioness Lions Club?

The first thing to do is contact us and plan to attend a club meeting. We awlays welcome help with a service event.  Find out how the club works and meet the members.   If you decide that we are right for you we would be delighted to have you join.  (see Contact Us)
