Club Projects
The purpose of every Lions Club is to provide services to the community, the blind, vision and/or hearing impaired and to help those in need. All proceeds raised from projects supported by the general public are given to the charitable causes we support. Our projects include:
Basket Bingo & Raffle – Each Spring we hold a Basket Bingo & Raffle in the Social Hall of the Springettsbury Fire Co. 3013 E. Market St., York, PA. Twenty games of Bingo are played and Longaberger baskets filled with “goodies” are given away as prizes. This year’s Basket Bingo & Raffle was be held on Sunday, May 6th. We realized a profit of just over $2,100 which will be given to the charities we support.
200 Club Raffle – In December and January the club conducts a 200 Club Raffle. 200 tickets are sold for $10/ea. Ten-weeks of monetary prizes are awarded.
Scholarships for Area Students – Each year as a memorial to Lion Neil Everhart who was a former teacher, Principal at Central York and West York Area, High Schools., the club tries to award at least two partial scholarships to deserving students from the York area who is freshman at York College of Pennsylvania.
Adopt-A-Highway – Four times a year the club participates in the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up program organized by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Our Lions Club and other community groups throughout the state pick-up “litter” from along designated sections of roadways. Our assigned roadway encompasses a section of N. Sherman St in Springettsbury Twp. from Rte. #30 to the township’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, excluding Pleasureville.
York Fair – Our club is one of many in York County who work ten days in mid-September at the York Fair taking tickets at the gates from the thousands of persons who enjoy attending America’s oldest fair which dates back to 1765. The club is paid an hourly rate for each hour that a member works.
