The Slippery Rock Lions Club sponsors the following projects:
Eyeglass Collection at several local locations. Recycling eyeglasses through the Brother's Brother organization in Pittsburgh for distribution by mission projects, like Doctors Without Borders, for people in developing nations who need glasses.
Recycling plastic through the NEXTREX Community Challenge program. For every 1000 pounds of plastic recycled, we can place a TREX park bench in our community.
Jared Box program for children with cancer. See the Jared Box Project at https://thejaredbox.org/
Reading Action Program to increase literacy of our community children at the Slippery Rock Community Library.
Eye Screening for children ages 2 to 5, using state of the art Spot Cameras to identify any issues before problems can become irreversible at the age of 6. Those parents whose children's eyes need attention will receive a printout for a professional to follow up with.
Food Distribution to members of our community who need help every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 - 12:00 am at the Slippery Rock Alliance Church Food Bank (part of the Pittsburgh Food Bank).
