• Message From Our President
Dear Lions,
Time to rethink our direction and strategy. We have re-introduced to the club, vision testing, Peace Poster Contest and initiated our first annual garage sale to be held Nov. 9, on the Lions Club property on the Sebring Parkway (next to the Senior Center). We are continuing to attend the Downtown Community Garage Sale each month, handing out invitations and literature pertaining to Lions programs and talking to the public. We need Member participation in doing this. It is important to become as visual as possible. We need to break down the time line to two hour segments. Please get with me to sign up. Remember, membership is our goal, the more Lions the more we can do for the community. I know our meetings have been long, but necessary to implement our goals. Now that we have a basis to work with, we will be getting back to normal meetings.
We should zone in our goals and begin preparing now the regular programs LCI has been doing for years. ie Christmas Show Box gifts, collecting aluminum tabs, eyeglass collection, etc.
Participation is the key.
Yours in Lionism,
Lion Ralph Rensing, President

GOOD JOB TEAM
Diabetes Awareness in November
November is Lions Diabetes Awareness Month! The International Diabetes Federation estimates that 371 million people worldwide live with diabetes, and that number is expected to grow to 552 million by 2030. In November, we encourage Lions everywhere to join the fight against diabetes — planning projects and events that help increase awareness of this deadly, debilitating disease and that educate community members on how to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
Goals
1. Membership-increase
2. Focus on Family
3. Set a time to meet and sort through item for Garage Sale. Items need to be clean and presentable.
4. Have as many members at the Cabinet meeting as possible on 11/16.
5. Contact our Twin Club, Palm Harbor II, Zone 10

In a Spec of Time
By Arthur Mellor
Here I am again, this part of my story continues in the Hamilton Elementary School in Trenton, N.J.
The teachers would make comments on our report cards to track the progress of your learning instead of the grading system like today, when I received my first report it was something like this “Arthur has been talking too much to his fellow students”. The second report was “Arthur is still talking too much”. The third was a little stronger “Arthur talks too much” and the fourth one read “Arthur talks entirely too much.” You see what I was doing was standing up and making speeches whenever the urge came to me.
First Thanksgiving
By Margaret Hillert
If I had been a Pilgrim child
Among the fields and forests wild
Where deer and turkey used to roam,
A cabin would have been my home
With fireplace and earthen floor
And bearskins hanging at the door.
I would have gathered berries bright
For candles fragrantly alight,
And dug for clams and picked the corn
And laid the table smooth and worn.
Or hunted nuts hard-shelled and good
And helped in any way I could,
With time to laugh and play and run
When Indian children came for fun.
And on the first Thanksgiving Day
I would have met with friends to pray
And thank the Lord for all his care
In keeping us together there.
