News from the 2022 Alabama Lions State Convention!!

On April 30 2022, Scottsboro Lions President John Powell, and Scottsboro Lions member and District Governor Mechele Mosley had the honor of presenting the Aubrey D Green Humanitarian Award to Scottsboro resident Mary K Carlton at the 2022 Alabama State Convention in Atmore. This award recognizes Mary K's continued support of our neighbors in Scottsboro and Jackson County, including the Nourish One Child program which provides food to children in need through the Scottsboro School System. Congratulations to Mary K, and her husband Gene, who work tirelessly to help those in our city.

Rhonda McDavid, Executive Director of Camp Seale Harris, spoke to the Scottsboro Lions Club at our March 8th meeting. Hundreds of young people with diabetes come each year to Camp Seale Harris for a medically supervised, fun camp experience and access to year-round support that helps them fight diabetes every day. Campers try new things, learn new skills, and make life-long friends. They become more independent and confident. Many become leaders and mentors. It’s where they connect and are inspired to live well. Camps are located in nine locations in Alabama and Northwest Florida and offer day, weekend, and week long camp programs.

Also shown are two Scottsboro campers recently sent to Camp Seale Harris by the Scottsboro Lions, Dylon Chastain (who shared his camp experiences) and Georgia White. Your Lions Club offers this opportunity to local school age children with diabetes so they can better live their lives while controlling there medical condition.
