What has the Valley Hi Lions Club Accomplished?
We organized the award winning 2006 Medical Mission in Iriga City, Philippines. We received a $30,000 LCIF grant for this special undertaking and organized a trip to bring hundreds of health care professionals to provide medical care to thousands of locals.
We conducted thousands of health screenings, medical procedures, and surgeries. Locals benefited from the provision of medical supplies and prescription medications.
With the help of local students and volunteers, we also started an effort to reestablish the forests of Mt. Iriga. To this day, the initiative has planted over half a million trees.
What has the Valley Hi Leo Club Accomplished?
Leo Anthony Almazan of Mira Loma HS started the Ilian Water Project to build water pasteurization indicators for a tribe in the Philippines struggling with the spread of waterborne diseases. Working for the cause of volunteer engineers who were constructing latrines for the tribe, the club helped cut the incidence of waterborne diseases in half. Anthony was one of 5 students in the state of California to be nominated for the international Leo of the Year Award.
