Lions Club of Rumford, RI
Welcome!
About Us
The Lions Club of Rumford is a group of service minded men and women who provide assistance to individuals and groups within the City of East Providence, RI and the surrounding communities.
"Where There's a Need, There's a Lion"
Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.
The World's Largest Service Club Organization
Our 46,000 clubs and 1.4+ million members make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most effective. Our members do what is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. From children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat, children afflicted with life-threatening conditions to with people we may never meet, we make a positive difference.
Examples of the services we provide are:
We arrange for free professional eye examinations, glasses and frames for children in East Providence whose families cannot afford the expense.
We collect used eyeglases, clean them and then deliver them for sight missions to foreign countries where eye exams are performed and eyeglasses are distributed at no charge to receipients.
We donate two $500 scholarships annually through the Scholarship Foundation of East Providence.
We donate annually to several local organizations, including The Bread of Life Food Pantry (Rumford), The InterFaith Food Mission (Providence / Cranston), The Good Neighbor Food Pantry / Kitch (Riverside), The RI Food Bank (RI) and The Groden Center (Providence).
We provide food gift cards (distributed by local EP Schools) at both Thanksgiving and Christmas to families that would otherwise go without.
We respond to numerous requests throughout the year from various organizations and individuals for assistance and are usually able to provide the needed assistance.
For Memorial Day, we place US Flags on veteran's graves at six EP cemeteries.
We serve at two food pantries and three soup kitchens located in East Providence, Pawtucket, Providence and Cranston, RI.
