Projects

  • EatUp sandwiches for hungry school kids 
    A few times every school term we make over 1000 cheese sandwiches which are distributed to schools across Rockhampton to freeze and keep on hand for issue to students that come to school without lunch. Refer EatUp for more details.
     
  • Low Vision Support Group 
    On a monthly basis, Club members transport a group of visually impaired people from within the community to the Talbot Estate Community Hall for a morning tea and get together.
     
  • Recycle for Sight - glasses collection 
    Used eyeglasses are collected from various locations across Rockhampton and sent off to the Lions Recycle for Sight Team for processing and distribution to those in need.
     
  • Griffins LEO Club 
    Students at the North Rockhampton State High School are members of this school based LEO Club which has been running successfully over several years and is coordinated by our Club.
     
  • Youth of the Year 
    Secondary school students participate in Youth of Year judging starting at Club level where winners advance through the Region, District and State stages of the competition culminating in each State winner competing at the Multiple District Youth of the Year judging held at the annual Lions Australia Multiple District Convention. 
    In 2022, a Rockhampton school student who won our Club judging went on to win at Region, District and State levels before competing at the Multiple District Youth of the Year judging.
      
  • Peace Poster 
    School students participate in the annual Peace Poster competition. This competition starts with judging at Club level where winning posters are advanced through District and Multiple District stages, ultimately being judged and exhibited at the annual Lions Clubs International Convention.
     
  • LEHP children vision screening program 
    Vision screening conducted is in primary schools by Lions accredited under the LEHP children vision screening program to detect vision related issues of students needing referral to Optometrists for professional intervention.

Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of what we do to ensure we have the money needed for the various projects and causes our Club support, these including: 

  • Sausage Sizzles
  • Lions Christmas Cake sales
  • Working at events - Speedway, Rocky Swap, etc

Causes we support

in our community 

  • Meals on Wheels Rockhampton is a not for profit charity delivering meals to people within the Rockhampton and Gracemere communities. In 1963 Alan Bray, a Charter member of our Club, was instrumental in establishing this important meal delivery service. Through the years, our Club members have had ongoing involvement on the management committee supporting the operation of the facility, volunteering with meal preparation and deliveries to clients among other important functions. 
  • Providing support and donations as and where required to a range of organisations including: Rockhampton Women's Shelter, Archer Park Rail Museum, Fitzroy Community Hospice, Schotia Place Senior Citizen group
