The Reno Host Lions Club is Nevada's first chartered Lions Club, dating back to 1920. Today, we are the largest Lions Club in the Truckee Meadows.
The motto of Lions Clubs International is "We Serve." Historically, Lions are known world-wide for providing services to the visually impaired. Being "Knights of the Blind" is still the cornerstone of our work, but we also devote significant time, talent and resources to education, health, the environment and our youth. Our club service projects include:
- The Lions Eye Foundation of California-Nevada - provides free eye surgery for qualified Nevada and Northern California patients with a medical need - for questions or to inquire about services, click here
- The Washoe County Lions Sight Conservation Committee - offers free eye exms and glasses to qualified Washoe County residents - for questions or to inquire about services, click here
- Eyeglasses for School Kids
- Lions In Sight of California and Nevada - collects and re-distributes used eyeglasses worldwide - for eyeglass drop-off locations, click here
- Free vision screenings in our community and schools
- Partner-in-education with Roger Corbett Elementary School
- Lions Camp Dat-So-La-Lee
- Scholarships for local high school graduates and Truckee Meadows Community College students
- Park and playground sponsorship and support
- Free wheelchairs for those in need
- Salvation Army holiday bell ringing
- Community grants
We are also the proud sponsor of the annual Fight for Sight Golf Classic that raises funds for "Eye Glasses for School Kids" and other vision related services.
