Club Projects

Used Eyeglass and Hearing Aid Recycling
The Renfrew Lions Club has placed used eyeglass and hearing aid collection boxes around town where your used eyeglasses can be dropped off. They will get picked up and distributed around the world. The collection boxes can be found at the following locations:

Renfrew Eye Clinic - 281 Raglan Street South, Renfrew
J.D. Optical - 313 Raglan Street South, Renfrew
River EyeCare - 108 Raglan Street South, Renfrew
Davidson Hearing Aid Centre - 627 Fortington Street, Renfrew
Step'N'Back Diner - 240 Hall Ave, Renfrew

Used eyeglasses and hearing aids are collected, sent to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) in Calgary, cleaned, checked out, and distributed around the world. To learn more about CLERC, go to https://clerc.ca/.

Hospice Renfrew
The Renfrew Lions Club supports Hospice Renfrew through donations. Their expert palliative team provides physical, emotional and spiritual comfort, free of charge, to all residents of Renfrew County. To learn more about Hospice Renfrew, go to https://www.hospicerenfrew.ca/.

Renfrew & District Food Bank
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Renfrew & District Food Bank through donations and hosting food drives to reduce food insecurity in Renfrew. To learn more about the Renfrew & District Food Bank, go to https://renfrewfoodbank.ca/.

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides through donations and hosting a Walk-For-Dog-Guides. Dog Guides currently have seven programs:

  • Canine Vision Dog Guides
  • Hearing Dog Guides
  • Seizure Response Dog Guides
  • Service Dog Guides
  • Autism Assistance Dog Guides
  • Diabetes Alert Dog Guides
  • Facility Support Dog Guides

With no government financial support, the Dog Guide programs empower Canadians with disabilities to navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing Dog Guides at no cost to them. Lions Clubs International Foundation
The Renfrew Lions Club supports Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) through donations. LCIF transforms lives through the power of giving, with nearly US$1.3 billion in grants impacting 200 countries and regions around the world. Since there are no administration costs, 100% of the funds go to where they are needed. To learn more about LCIF, go to https://lcif.org. Terry Fox Foundation
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Terry Fox Foundation through donations and the Terry Fox Run. Since its inception, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $800 million for cancer research. Terry Fox Runs take place every year with many participants from all over the world. The Run is a volunteer led, all-inclusive, non-competitive event with no corporate sponsorship, incentives or fundraising minimums. Fox laid out these wishes before his death in 1981. Sunshine Coach
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Sunshine Coach through donations. The Sunshine Coach provides accessible transportation for people in Renfrew and area who are living with disabilities that render the use of conventional modes of public transportation inappropriate to their needs. Renfrew 4-H Association
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Renfrew 4-H Association through trophy and award sponsorship. Renfrew 4-H is an organization of leaders building leaders. There are 4-H clubs in every county of Ontario and in every 4-H community, there are a variety of events beyond the club level in which members and/or volunteers can become involved.

4-H Ontario’s “Learn To Do By Doing” approach has provided 4-H youth with a place they can be involved, accepted, valued and heard while developing valuable leadership and life skills. To learn more about Renfrew 4H, go to https://4-hontario.ca/association/renfrew-4-h-association/.

Renfrew Victoria Hospital
The Renfrew Lions Club supports the Renfrew Victoria Hospital through donations.  The Renfrew Victoria Hospital is a fully accredited facility, offering, surgical, medical, and complex continuing care. Special in-patient services include a Special Care Unit, Palliative Care, and Pastoral Care.

Letters of Friendship
The Renfrew Lions Club will be sending cards to the residents of the long term care facilities within our town, at various times during the year.  Everyone is encouraged to reach out to the residents to let them know they are not alone.  Pictures, letters, cards help people feel included.
