Preston Christmas Parade Set for Dec. 13
The Preston Lions Club would like to invite you to participate in the 2nd Annual Preston Christmas Parade and festivities.
This year's parade will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2020, on Sunset Boulevard. Following the parade, there will be a variety of holiday events at the Preston Carnival Grounds.
These events include but are not limited to: dance routines, music/caroling, police K-9 demonstration, Festival of Trees for auction, and some other fun things. All events will be appropriately spaced and mask wearing is encouraged.
We would like to invite your family or business to donate a decorated tree for our Festival of Trees Auction to be held on Sunday, December 13 following the parade. The carnival grounds will be open at 9 a.m. Sunday, December 13, to set up and decorate your trees. All proceeds will go to the Preston Lions Club.
The Preston Carnival is the main source of income for the Preston Lions Club, and because it was canceled due to the pandemic this has caused a financial burden for the Club to maintain and keep the building in good working condition. The community's help is needed to rally together and make this a great fundraiser for the Preston Lions Club.
If you have any questions regarding the festival of trees, please contact Jill Ostermann at 410-829-2336, or you may email her at ostermann48@hotmail.com. We hope that you will consider donating a decorated tree on December 13.
Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade should email Phyllis Frase at pfrase53@yahoo.com.
If we are forced to cancel this event due to inclement weather or the COVID pandemic, notifications will be posted on this webpage, FaceBook, and the What's Up Preston Facebook group.
Thank you and we look forward to a great parade and a prosperous fundraiser for the Preston Lions Club!

November 14th is 2017 World Diabetes Day
Centers for Disease Control says:
In the U.S., there are a total of 30.3 million people with diabetes of which only 23.1 million people have been diagnosed, leaving 7.2 million people undiagnosed. In addition, over 33% of adults in the U.S. have pre-diabetes. Most alarming is that rates of type 2 diabetes in youth are increasing along with obesity rates.
Md. Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says:
There are 1.6 million adults in the State of Maryland estimated to have pre-diabetes, but only 408,000 know. Up to 30% of people who have prediabetes will go on to develop type 2 diabetes within five years of diagnosis, unless they take steps to improve their health. Programs are available through the Caroline County Health Department, 410-479-8080.
What can you do?
Learn about the risk factors and see your doctor and/or pediatrician to get tested, especially if you are at risk. Talk to your family about lifestyle changes, to include eating healthy and exercising regularly, and:
Take the 5-2-1-0 steps every day
5 - fruits/vegetables a day
2 - no more than two hours of inactive recreation a day
1 – one or more hours of physical activity a day
0 – Zero sugary drinks
