Our History

In 1976, the then Trinidad North Lions Club (now Port of Spain Central Lions Club) sought the approval of the District Governor at the time, Lion Terrence Boswell-Inniss to sponsor a new club in the Port of Spain area. Governor Inniss agreed and Lions Edmond Heart PDG and Lion Clyde Ng Fan were appointed as sponsoring lions of the new club, the Port of Spain North Lions Club.

A membership drive began and in June 1976, a formation meeting was held at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre. George Armoogam, a successful local businessman was elected Charter President, Peter Hospedales as Secretary and Gabriel Laudat as Treasurer.

The new club had a total of 37 charter members, including eight members from the sponsoring club (POS Central Lions Club) and one member from the Diego Martin Lions Club. The Lions Club of Port of Spain North became the 9th lions club in Trinidad and Tobago evven though it did not receive its charter until September 1977.

The  Club was assigned a Charter area covering from Fort George Road in the West to the Lady Young Lookout in the East and almost everything north of the Western Maid Road in St James to the Caribbean Sea.

During the tenure of Lion Dennis McSween, the Leo Club of Port of Spain North was chartered on June 29th, 1988.
