The Plains Lions Club of District 14W of Pennsylvania has been proudly working with and for the community of Plains Township following the motto, “We Serve.”
Established on February 18th, 1947, we recently completed 75 years of providing community service, events and functions that allow the residents an opportunity to interact with each and have a better sense of involvement. The District has also had the honor of having eight District Governors to lead the area, with more, hopefully in line.
The Plains Lions provide the area with food drives for the local food banks and at times hold pasta dinners to supply those food banks with needed supplies. This is in conjunction with annual check donations to the food banks to help them with the costs of providing meals.
We give food baskets and sometimes gift cards to the elderly and those who are home bound during the Holidays. We feel that no one should ever be forgotten or left behind so we also give wheelchairs and walkers to those who cannot afford them and need that assistance.
The Plains Lions are also dedicated to providing for the children with an annual Easter Egg Hunt and providing free eye screening events so we have a future that can see brightly. We also are honored to present an annual Trunk and Treat event for the children to provide a family friendly safe atmosphere.
We are proud to decorate, with pride, the town with Christmas lights and an annual Christmas parade where at the end, the kids get to see Santa and receive candy stockings.
During the year, we hold annual fundraisers like our golf tournament and Outback dinner night. These events help us build funds that we use to present annual donations to the Plains Ambulance (which the Plains Lions bought the first one many years ago) and the Plains Ousterhout Library. Besides these donations, we also give out presentations to local Plains students who excel academically and are pillars of the community.
It would be impossible to list everything that the Plains Lions try to accomplish. But one thing can be for sure, they will never stop believing and upholding the Lions International motto of, “We Serve”.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
