I CAN SEE THE BOARD!
These are the words we, as Lions, love to hear after a child has been fitted for a pair of eyeglasses.
100% of all money raised during the PEORIA SUNSET LIONS CLUB'S annual 'WHITE CANE' fundraiser will help us provide eyeglasses for students in the Peoria Unified School District who could not otherwise afford to buy their own glasses.
The PEORIA SUNSET LIONS CLUB asks for your help by dropping your donation into one of the 'WHITE CANE' buckets during their fund raiser at the Fry's Supermarket, 91st and Union Hills, Peoria, APRIL 25th, 9 am to 3 pm.
As a drop of rain can become a mighty river, or it takes a village, or it could be me needing a helping hand, your change or bills adds to the next donation becoming a pair of glasses for someone's son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, niece or nephew.
Don't know what to do with those used eyeglasses. Bring them with you and drop them into the barrel to be recycled. The LIONS clean them up, read the prescription and provide those eyeglasses to individuals in other countries on one of the many EYE MISSIONS during the year.
The Friends of the Peoria Library
On November 8, 2012 we had the opportunity to participate in The Friends of the Peoria Library's Pre-Book Sale/VIP Event. We provided some desserts and set up a table with information about our club and other Lions projects. Thank you to all that provided desserts and to Lions Larry Vine, Rudy Diaz, Carol Seipel, Joan Williamson and Debbie Vine for manning the table.
We became involved with The Friends of the Peoria Library last summer when we sponsored one of their summer reading programs. We look forward to working with them again in the future.

Christmas for the Troops
Once again we will be collecting toiletries, snacks, socks and other items needed by our troops in Afghanistan. This year we have troops deployed from Arizona including seven National Guardsmen from Peoria. We will be providing boxes to at least one all female forward base as well as many others. Peace Poster Contest 2012
The Montessori Kingdom of Learning participated in the LionsClubs International Peace Poster Contest, sponsored by our club. Twelve posters were submitted by students for judging this year. Lion President Larry Vine along with Peoria Mayor (Lion) Bob Barrett, Immediate Past District Governor Debbie Vine and Peace Poster Chairperson Lion Rachelle Barrett went to the school on Friday, October 26 to choose a winner and several runners-up.
The winning poster was submitted by Kaylee Kasper. Her poster entitled "Let the World Rest" was unique and fit the theme "Imagine Peace" very well.
Thanks to the staff, students and parents of the Montessori Kingdom of Learning for participating in this project. Good luck to Kayla as her poster moves forward in the judging process!
