The Pauma Valley Lions Club serves the local community by
- Providing sight services.
In a collaboration with Valley Center Optometry, the Club provides any school-age child in the local are who is in need with a free eye exam and free lenses and frames. The Club also participates in Lions International's project of collecting used glasses and frames to be refurbished and distributed as needed in Southern California and Mexico.
- Running a summer reading program for school age children.
Together with the Valley Center/Pauma Unified School District's Pauma School and the Valley Center branch of the San Diego County Library, the Club provides free books weekly during the summer at Pauma School for children to take home. The goal is to maintain and improve reading skill over the summer. Over the past eight summers, Bobcat Readers has distributed many hundreds of new and used books to school kids.
- Holding a Lions speech contest for high school students
The Lions Club International organization conducts an annual speech contest for local high school students. Prizes are awarded. Our Club participates, inviting participants from local high schools.
- Holding a Peace Poster Contest.
The Lions Club International organization conducts an annual peace poster contest for local middle school students. Prizes are awarded. Our Club participates, inviting participants from local middle schools.
- Road cleanup.
The club participates in the CalTrans Adopt-a-Highway program, picking up litter to keep a two-mile stretch of California 76 in Pauma Valley looking good.
- Holdiing rummage sale fundraisers.
The club raises money and serves the community with a popular rummage sale in the El Rey restaurant parking lot on Highway 76, usually in the spring and the fall each year. Club members donate and collect items to be sold at very reasonable prices.
The club routinely identifies new community service needs and launches projects to meet those needs. This list is but a small handful of the activities the club has conducted over its long existence
