2023 Annual Lions Golf Tournament Great Success

Despite unseasonable cool and rainy weather, roughly 50 golfers came out to play the Lake Monticello course for charity.

Over $5,500 was raised. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised by this Rivanna Lions Club-sponsored event will go toward funding local vision initiatives, scholarships for young people, assistance for those with food insecurity – and more – over the coming year.

Over sixty local companies and individuals sponsored holes at the event. Thank you notes are going out this week from various club members.

Individual honors included closest to the pin at hole 3 (Troy Hance), Hole 10 (Will Hance), and Hole 16 (Kyle Clark). Katie Mundell and Dalton Clarke shot the longest drives on Hole 11. No one hit a hole in one at Hole 18 (announced with a special prize before the tournament).

The Men’s Overall Winners were Team Turgeon (Andrew Turgeon, Eric Clark, Mike Simms, and Kyle Clark). Team Quantock came in second (Stephen Quantock, Zachary Brode, Josh Moats, and Josh Scorziello). Team Hance (Will Hance, Troy Hance, Kevin McCarthy, Bert Eyler) took third place.

In the Mixed Men and Women categoryTeam Mundell (Mike Mundell, Katie Mundell, Craig Lounsburg, and Lisa Lounsbury) took top honors.  Team Marsh (Joseph Marsh, Carmen Marsh, Tina Mudd, and John Mudd) came in second.

Three of the winning teams even donated their winnings back to the cause. The Rivanna Lions are especially thankful for this unexpected donation.

Watch this space for details for next year’s golf outing. The date will likely be set in early 2024.
