Serving the community for over 60 years.
The Lions Club of Pakuranga Panmure was Chartered in August 1960 and currently has a membership of approximately 20 men and women. Lions Clubs International (LCI) was founded in 1917 and is best known world-wide for fighting blindness and other preventable diseases; these challenges are funded through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), the charitable arm of Lions International.
Our club has supported LCIF for many years. LCIF also provides emergency funding for natural disasters such as the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes. These funds are channelled through local Lions Clubs. A similar, but New Zealand based, charitable fund is the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust (LMLCCT) in recognition of Lloyd Morgan, New Zealand's first International President of LCI. All funds raised from the public are returned to the public through LCIF, LMLCCT or a local Lions Club.
One of our community activities - along with many other organisations - is reforestation of Hauraki Gulf Islands and mainland reserves.
We also provide staffing and financial assistance to Camp Quality, a camp for young people with life threatening challenges.
Children of Courage Awards is another favourite of our club, whereby children (from age five to fifteen) and/or siblings are recognised for one (or more) of four categories. They are: Heroric act or deed; Living with an illness or disability; sibling living with a brother / sister with an illness or disability; Outstanding sporting achievement. It is not a competition and all nominations receive an award.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
