LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL and NOTTINGHAM WEST LIONS CLUB
- Lions Clubs International, founded 1917 by Melvin Jones and has been serving the less fortunate for 103 years. 2017 was our Centennial year.
- Our motto is ‘WE SERVE’ - With some 48,000 clubs across 200 plus countries and 1.4 million members we are the world's largest service club organisation.
- We operate and serve through our Purposes and Code of Ethics.
- Lions Clubs International Foundation with grants averaging US$30 million annually, makes the Foundation a leading humanitarian organization.
- Since 1990 Lions have raised over US$415 million for Campaign SightFirst saving millions of people from blindness.
- Nottingham West Lions Club was Chartered in 1993 with 26 members. Five of whom are still serving today. NWLC is part of District 105CE (Previously 105E), one of 8 Districts in Lions Multiple-District 105.
- In 2010, NWLC hosted the first District Convention in Nottingham for over 34 years.
- Also, in 2010 we launched one of the first Club Branches in the District, our very own Nottingham West Lions Pride Club Branch. Currently with 9 Members.
- We have 16 Melvin Jones Fellows, including 3 Progressive MJFs in the club, and we have bestowed MJFs outside the club too. MJF is the highest honour a Lions Club can bestow on members and the public.
- We are on our 10th monthly meeting place since inception.
- We have a Monthly Business Meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month. The Pride Club Branch meets every 2nd Monday of the month.
- We have a Social Meeting or Event on average every other month.
- Since our foundation NWLC have raised over £170,000 for charitable causes. We have also had three members become District Governors, one of whom also became the Multiple District Council Chair.
