Local News:

Northampton Eighty Lions in the community

CONTINUING PROJECTS:

The Lions "Messsage in a Bottle" Scheme continues to be well supported by Northampton Eighty Lions.  Together with other Lions Clubs we have distributed over 50,000 bottles within the County and the scheme is proving to be saving lives.

The Bottle contains information which would be of use to the emergency services and is placed in the fridge of the householder. A sticker is placed on the inside of the front door and the outside of the fridge. The information covers allergies, medical conditions, next of kin, medication, pets in the home and a whole lot more.  It is used as a helpful guide by the emergency services.

Bottles are available from Age Concern, St John Ambulance, libraries and some doctors' surgeries, also from any club member in the 'Contact Us' on the left of this page.

Used spectacles

We continue to collect and recycle pairs of spectacles no longer needed by their users.  Please ask your optician whether they have one of our bins.  We visit them at regular intervals to empty their receptacle.  Once in our hands the used glasses are sorted, packed and then sent on to our Headquarters in Birmingham.  We grade and clean them, ascertain the prescription and then send them onwards to the third world and elsewhere to be handed out by our associates to those people, young and old, who need assistance with their sight.  We do not break the spectacles into their component materials, they are much more useful as they are.

Among our supporters in Northampton are: Boots Opticians at Weston Favell Centre and in The Grosvenor Centre, Sheinmans Opticians in Abington Street and, in Kingsthorpe, Eye Care, Greens and Paul Lewis.
