Peace Poster Contest
Each year, Lions Club International holds a Peace Poster Contest that is open to all clubs around the world. Local clubs can sponsor organized youth groups or schools within their community. The contest is open to children aged eleven, twelve and thirteen.
Participating students are asked to create posters, using a variety of mediums including paints, crayons, pencils and charcoal, that express a new theme developed each year.
In keeping with each year's theme, students creatively express their views and understanding of what the "theme" means to them and they are asked to share their personal visions with the world. Each poster created is "One of a Kind" and entries are judged at all levels based on originality, artistic merit, and portrayal of the theme.
One winner is chosen from each school to advance through the District and Multiple District levels concluding with the International Contest in the spring. At the International Competition, twenty-four finalists are selected each year representing the work of more than 350,000 young participants worldwide. Their artwork is shared globally via the internet, the media and through exhibits.
The Grand Prize Winner receives a trip to the awards ceremony at the United Nations "Lions Day" in New York City where he or she will receive a cash award of US $5,000 and an engraved plaque.
Two family members and the sponsoring Lions Club president will accompany the winner to the award ceremony.
The remaining 23 Merit Award Winners each receive a cash award of US $500 and a certificate of achievement.
