Our "longest staying Charter Member" Stefan Scheifele

The logo of  our  club shows three symbols: the volcano Vesuvio, the Lion and a Bridge.

Vesuvio stands for the city and the surroundings of Naples where our club is active.

The Lion represents the members recruited from the military and civilian community in and around Naples.

The Bridge is the best symbol for our aim which is  to support and ‘build bridges’ for the less fortunate people of the area of Naples, Italy or abroad. At the same time we want to take an active interest the civic, cultural and moral welfare where we live.

So what does the name Monte Nuovo  stand for:

Monte Nuovo is a cinder cone vulcano within the Campi Flegrei Area. A series of damaging earthquakes and changes in land elevation preceded its only eruption, which lasted from September 29 to October 6, 1538, when it was formed.

Nuovo means New, new club, new ways, new life……present a preferred destination for a hike and a family day.

Lions Club Napoli Monte Nuovo is a german speaking founded international club who was established by the initiative of Lieutenant Colonel Helmuth Zander, (Club President from May 2008 – December 2009).

Present club business is conducted in english.

The club was authorized by the International Association of Lions Clubs on 21st of May 2008. The Charter Night followed  on the 10th of June at the Academia Aeronautica in Pozzuoli. The club was sponsered with representatives from LC Rittershude in Germany and LC Megaride from Napels, Italy.

Meanwhile the last Charter Member is in transfer to leave the Club.

If we do not move with the challenges and the rotation of our members coarses the club, (50 members in nearly five years) we will soon become history.

We continuously have to look out for new members, innovative ideas, new strategies and be open to new suggestions.

Joy and satisfaction is still present, especially  the last two years in transforming the club into be english spoken has shown some new dynamics and also a clear response to the district who now are fully aware and accepts the language problems.

Meanwhile the LC Napoli Monte Nuovo is a wonderful and great example of international friendship and understanding,

I hope it will continue for many more years to come.
