Projects

The Murrumbateman Lions Club focuses on serving the local community as well as providing assistance and support to Lions Club initiated projects.

Jones Park Path Project

The Lions Club of Murrumbateman is undertaking a project to install a path from the Jones Park car park in Murrumbateman to the bridge which is adjacent to the war memorial. The installation of this path will provide safer access to the memorial for people of all ages including those with disabilities.

It is planned to start route the path from the car park between two existing fence rails and then curve round and continue to the bridge.  It will only need the removal of the two overhanging post rails from each fence section and the gutter modified to provide easy access.

Water Tank Project

The Murrumbateman Lions Club has created a magnificent painted mural on the recently completed water tank located in the grounds adjacent to the Murrumbateman Bush Cemetery.

Inspiration for the project was drawn from the now extensive ‘Silo Art‘ trend that has seen installation of artwork on silos and water tanks in many country towns and villages across Australia.

The mural features the Gang Gang Cockatoo, Golden Sun moth in a grassy woodland setting, with a few endangered plants in foreground. All are endangered in our local area.and should engage with the local community by providing important environmental education and support a professional artist.

The project was supported by the Yass Valley Council,Murrumbateman Progress Association (MPA), Southern Tablelands Arts, Murrumbateman Landcare Group, local businesses and the community.

The water tank mural is perfectly positioned to become a major attraction as it is adjacent to a new Winery Trail that is fast becoming an important attraction for tourists to visit Murrumbateman

Jone Park Maintenance

The Murrumbateman Lions Club was instrumental in establishing the local park (Jones Park) with the support of Yass Valley Council. Through many volunteer hours over a number of years the members have built the ANZAC memorial garden and laid commemorative headstones, planted rose gardens, built a bridge over the creek and created picnic seating for visitors to the area. The Club has continued to ensure regular maintenance of the park.

Murrumbateman Bush Cemetery

The Murrumbateman Lions Club is also involved in the enhancement of the Murrumbateman Bush Cemetery. In recent years the Club has created a bush garden, laid a concrete sleeper walkway, built a columbarium and built the bush fence.

We welcome any feedback on our current projects and would love to hear from other local community groups requiring assistance with their projects. Please email murrumbateman.nsw@lions.org.au
