Volunteer Opportunities for Members

Volunteer to Help Maintain a Memorial Garden

As a part of its commitment to Lions International Centennial Service, Minneapolis Ambassadors Lions Club helps maintain a memorial garden located near the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Minneapolis Ambassadors member Lion Ashlee Haluptzok reached out to the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board to identify an environmental initiative in which our club members could participate and provide meaningful service to our community. A memorial garden at the east end of the Stone Arch Bridge surfaced as a need.

The memorial garden surrounds a bench purchased by the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association to honor Joan Leigh for her role in convincing the State of Minnesota to purchase the bridge, after it was abandoned by the railroad, and convert it into a pedestrian and bicycle trail. It was maintained for years by Joyce Anderson, who became an eye donor to the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank when she died at the age of 90. Anderson’s family and the Park Board have been seeking help to maintain the memorial garden. Minneapolis Ambassadors accepted the opportunity and asked Minneapolis Downtown Next Generation Lions to join us in service. Watch this calendar, our club FaceBook page and newsletter for updates how you can help. Contact Lion Sara McFee with questions by email at mcfee004@gmail.com.
