For over 80 years, the Millersville Lions Club has provided valuable services to the community.  In 2012, over $22,000 was raised and given back to the community.

Annual Food Drive

Through the generosity of the community, the Millersville Lions Club raises hundreds of dollars in food every winter through its Annual Food Drive held at John Herrs Market.  This helps to feed dozens of people in our community.

Easter Egg Hunt

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt is a favorite event for families in the community.  In 2012, members of the Club decorated hundreds of eggs and scattered them for the hunt.  Lion Jack Sauders, 1st Vice District Governor of District 14-D, chaired this event.  Dozens of children came to enjoy the hunt and collect one of the 100 chocolate bunny prizes.

Student Honor Night

Middle and High School Students from Penn Manor School District are recognized for their academic achievements by the Club annually.  In May 2012, Lion Russell Blake awarded prizes to 42 students at the dinner in their honor.  Club members had the opportunity to congratulate these fine young men and women on their accomplishments.

Millersville Lions Club Swimming Pool

Dedicated in 1961 as part of the Millersville bicentennial, the "Millersville Pool" as it is affectionately called, continues to be a place for recreation and swimming instruction for the community.  It is also The Club's largest source of income for its charities.  In 2012, the Club improved the Baby Pool and surrounding area by creating a zero entry Activity Pool, complete with fountains, water buckets and a giant mushroom waterfall.  The Pool is open annually from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.  Pool Memberships are open to the Public for a fee.

Links for Limbs Charity Golf Tournament

This 3rd Annual event supports the Save-A-Limb Fund at the Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, which saves limbs from amputation and provides hip and knee replacements to patients in need both domestically and abroad.  The golf scramble entry fee includes green fees with cart, range balls prior to the start, lunch and dinner, skill prizes and giveaways, and a silent auction.  Lion Michael Schaeffer started this event to help children like his daughter, Natalie, who contracted a bone disease as an infant, which led to the distruction of her growth plate and femoral head.  After experiencing daily pain and walking with a severe limp, Natalie had two surgeries and received treatments at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital.  Natalie continues to grow stronger each day and is active in helping to raise money for the Save-A-Limb fund so that other children may get help.

Community Day

Community Day is an event held at the Lions Club Swimming pool annually to celebrate the community and to raise money for a selected charity.    Local police, EMS and firefighters  attend to share information about what they do for the community.  Games and activities as well as a Raffle are all part of the fun. This year, the money raised goes to support the charities of the Millersville Lions Club.

White Cane Safety Days

Lions Club International is well known for its efforts to help those who are blind or visually impaired.  White Cane laws are in every state in the U.S. to provide blind persons a legal status in traffic.  In October, White Cane Safety Days are held to make the people in the community more aware of the meaning of the white cane and the need for motorists to exercise special care for the person carrying it.  Thanks to the community, in 2012, the Millersville Lions Club was able to raise $394.00 for this worthy cause.

Ringing the Bell for the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign allows the Salvation Army to provide food, toys and clothing to people in need during the Christmas season.  Members of the Millersville Lions Club volunteer to ring the bell and collect money for the Salvation Army every year in December.

The Millersville Lions Club also donated time and/or money to the following organizations in 2012:  The Harold B. Morin Scholarship Fund, The Joplin Relief Fund, Penn Manor High School Post Prom, Exercise for Eshleman Elementary School, Wounded Veterans, Eye Glass Collection, Beacon Hill Lodge Camp, The Million Tree Planting Campaign, and the Millersville Lioness Club's annual poinsettia/cookie project.
