Midland Valley Lions Pancake Breakfast
Midland Valley Lions Club hosted a Pancake Breakfast on 21 March 2015. All the Lions of Midland Valley pitched in to ensure this event was successful from taking up tickets, counting the money, training on the spot camera, giving eye screenings, making coffee, cooking, serving, and greeting the guests. It was a day full of unanticipated joy as we had the opportunity to fellowship with those in our community and share a little bit of what the Lions do for the community. The biggest blessing was the generosity of the community and their support of Midland Valley Lions Club. Thank you all for your support and generosity. It is through your contributions that our club can continue to serve those in need of sight and hearing assistance.

"CANDY DRIVE OCTOBER 2014"
Midland Valley Lions Club spent the last two days holding a fundraiser selling brooms and doing a Candy Drive to raise money for SCLCS. While we did not get a picture of everyone that supported the event, here are some of that were there. I apologize for not getting everyone.
One gentleman came and donated and told the story that when he was a child the only reason he was able to go to school was that the Lions provided him his first set of glasses. His parents could not afford glasses, and without God placing the Lions there to help in his life may have took a completely different path. Never doubt that your service makes a difference as there are thousands upon thousands of stories just like this that are unheard.

"Guest Rick Turnbull"
Midland Valley Lions Club was honored and privileged to have Mr. Rick Turnbull as their guest at their Lions Club Meeting on April 28, 2014. Mr. Turnbull thanked the Midland Valley Lions Club for honoring his daughter, Ms. Taylor Turnbull, with a scholarship in 2011. Taylor was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Midland Valley and the recipient of one of Midland Valley's Lions Club scholarships. She used her scholarship to assist her with costs while on a medical missionary trip to Romania in the summer of 2013 as a Pre-Med student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Taylor maintains a 3.99 GPA and plans to submit her final application to Medical School this summer. How many people's health, possibly sight and hearing do you think this Lions Scholarship will impact during Taylor's lifetime? Midland Valley Lions Club would like to thank Taylor and our community for your service and support. Without people like you the Lions Club could not continue to serve those with sight and hearing impairments.
"Guest Speaker Ms. Denise James and her Leader Dog Penny"
Midland Valley Lions Club was honored and privileged to have Ms. Denise James and her Golden Retriever Penny from Leader Dogs for the Blind as our guest speaker along with her guest Ms. Barbara Lariscy. Ms. James spoke about how blindness stripped her of much of her independence, but Leader Dogs was able to give a great deal of it back to her. Not only to her, but to her husband as well who also has a Leader Dog. Now that they both have Leader Dogs they are able to raise Successor Dogs. She discussed Leader Dogs 75th Anniversary and how Leader Dogs began and their history through the years. Over the past 75 years, 14,500 Leader Dogs have graduated. She spoke about the many contributions Leader Dogs makes to the Blind and Deaf and how Lions have accounted for 20 percent of the contributions to Leader Dogs. Leader Dogs not only support the Blind but the Deaf as well through their Program for the Deaf which uses hand and arm signals rather than vocal commands. They also have youth programs such as "Summer Experience" designed for teens. Leader Dogs is absolutely free and there is no cost to those approved to receive a Leader Dog. There are mobility requirements; however Leader Dogs have an Accellerated Mobility Program (AMP) to teach mobility skills. She encouraged all Lions to continue to support this wonderful organization. Leader Dogs is currently involved in a fund raiser for kennel renovations that will improve a more comfortable and accommodating environment for the dogs that will aslo releive kennel stress often associated with smaller kennels. For more information you can stay connected with Leader Dogs on Facebook by searching for "Leader Dogs for the Blind" or visit their webpage at www.leaderdog.org

"HELP KEEP THE VALLEY CLEAN" COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Midland Valley Lions Club partnered with Mildland Valley Church of the Nazarene and Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church for a Community Service Project on March 29th. The project's goal was to pick up litter and debris along Jefferson Davis Highway/Highway 1 from Clearwater towards Aiken. Over 40 bags of trash was collected, along with old tires, and other debris. The Lions aid those with sight and hearing impairments. Often those we help attend meetings and give their accounts how the improvement in their visions have changed their lives and what it was like the first time they could ride down the road and see again. It was our goal to ensure, that their first view was not one of a littered highway, but one of a community that is proud of their environment. Thanks to all the volunteers from both churches that came out to support us in this endeavor. Below are a few pictures of the event. Not everyone who participated was photographed, but their help was very much appreciated.

LIONS COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT THE NORTH AUGUSTA HEALTH EXPOSITION
Lions from North Augusta, Aiken, and Midland Valley joined forces today to support the North Augusta Health Exposition at Riverview Park. There were hundreds of vendors from the Health industry providing information about diabetes, eyesight, hearing, and a host of many other areas. As a member of any Lions Club, you have the opportunity to not only serve your local community but to work together as a team with other Lions Club organizations making an impact on peoples lives like you have never imagined. The Expo was a wonderful event that allowed all Lions to get to know each other just a little better and learn from each other.
Pictured above are Lions from Aiken, North Augusta, and Midland Valley who came together with the same goal..."To Serve" their communities.
MIDLAND VALLEY LIONS SERVING THE COMMUNITY
What does it mean to be a Lion? The lions slogan is "We Serve". While it is widely known that the Lions are the Knights of the Blind and raise money to aid those with seeing and hearing impairments, they do much more. They serve the community on a daily basis. For example, Midland Valley Lions Doug Greene and President James Cosnahan work to clean up debris from damage sustained from Ice Storm PAX at Langley cemetary.
Midland Valley Lions Doug Greene and Gordon Roy are proud to be part of an organization that looks at their community as a family that comes together during times of crisis and need.
