December 15, 2016

For the second year, the Mechanicsburg Lions Club has sponsored a program with Fifth Grade classes of Upper Allen Elementary school .   The program, "Give from the Heart" , introduces the kids to the concept of being charitable and being helpful to others.  Each of the 4 Fifth grade classes are given the opportunity to donate $100 to a cause that they choose.   The teachers manage the program and the kids team up and do research to determine the recipient of the donation.   They make presentations to their classmates and vote on the recipient.   The choosing of recipients takes place from November to December.  The recipients have just been announced and they are:  Pink Hands of Hope,  ASPCA, Hope for Paws, and Charity-Waters. An assembly will be held in February and the kids will present the checks to a representative of the charity they chose.    Each of the 5th graders will receive a special commemorative pin that was designed by Lion Tim McCaulley.  The pin, depicting a fun Lion with a Lions Logo and the Mechanicsburg Lions Club on a heart will serve to remind the kids of this experience and further communicate the message of being charitable.

December 15, 2016

The Mechancisburg Lions Club answered the call for assistance from the "Angel Tree Project" for the Cumberland Valley School District by providing vehicles and Club volunteers to deliver donated Christmas gifts to 4 schools.  The donated gifts will go to over 200 needy children for Christmas.   The volunteers from the Mechanicsburg Lions Club included Lion Ted Cramer, Lion Sam Robertson, Lions Tim and Lana McCaulley, and Lions Chris and Cathy Stank.

December 1, 2016

The Mechancisburg Lions Club donated a small boys bike to Mechanicsburg's "Operation Wildcat".  This organization collects household items, furniture and toys and distributes them to needy families in the Mechancisburg school district.   We were introduced to this organization when we attended a community connection meeting held at the Public Library earlier this year.

The bicycle pictured was donated to our club by Lion Mike and Linda Fenicle.  Mike won the bike in a raffle at this summer's appreciation day held at Beacon Lodge.
When Dawn Austin, the representative from Operation Wildcat, saw the bike, she said  ' I know exactly where this bicycle will be going'….Last week, a family in Mechanicsburg's home burned down and all was lost.  The family has 3 children, including a 3 year old boy.   The 3 year old boy will find this new bicycle, just his size, under the Christmas tree this year.

Lions Mike and Linda Fenicle and Lions Chris and Cathy Stank delivered the bike and were given a tour of Operation Wildcat's storage facility.  What this organization does for the community is heartwarming.   In addition to the bicycle, our club has made a cash donation to support their holiday giving program in our community.  At a future meeting, we should explore ways that our club might assist them in what they do to help those in need in our community.

Thanks to the funds the Mechanicsburg Lion’s Club contributed, I finished the bulk of my Eagle Scout Project today.  Over the past two weekends, I held work days to complete the concrete pad for the grill and the split rail fence.  I will send you an invitation to my Court of Honor in the spring as soon as it is planned.  So you can see some of the work, I have attached a few pictures of the work days.  Again, thank you so much for your generous donation.

Sincerely,
