DIMES FOR DIABETES
The dime is not often given much credit, but thanks to a wonderful program that is available through our club, the mighty dime has been given an excellent purpose!
Dimes for Diabetes is a program originally developed by Ana Elliott, the incoming District Governor for District N. It is backed by Lion Meredith Mitchell, District Diabetes Programs Chair for District 31-0.
Did you know that one 16.9-ounce water bottle can hold close to $100.00 dollars in dimes? Think of that! What a difference a mighty dime can make.
What can we do with this money?
• Sponsor children with diabetes to attend a summer camp
• Provide diabetic friendly snacks to local schools / afterschool programs / daycares
The goal is to aid our diabetic population, depending on the greatest need in our area. School nurses and the department of social services are great resources to help our club determine what the need is for those with juvenile diabetes.
Eyeglasses and hearing aids recycling
It is only through the kindness of our eyeglasses and hearing aids donors that we can offer the gift of sight or sound to those in need.
Lions Recycle For Sight Program takes old eyeglasses and repurposes them to promote eyecare globally
Lions Club will be collecting used prescription eyeglasses
and prescription and non-prescription sunglasses as part of a unique recycling program. The collected glasses will be
cleaned and prepared for distribution in developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
USABLE GLASSES CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
