Record Turnout for 34th Annual Marlborough Lions 5K
The Marlborough Lions held their 34th annual ‘Round the Lake 5K Road Race on Sunday May 27th and experienced a record number of runners turning out for the event with 225 registered for the event.
This year’s first place male and female runners were Peter Walsh of Marlborough and Kelly Labanara of Chaplin. Peter completed the course in 18 minutes and 24 seconds while Kelly completed her run in 20 minutes and 32 seconds. There was also a wide range of ages for the runners with kids as young as 5 years old completing the run along with senior runners well into their 70s. A large number of runners also attended from the “Run 169 Towns Society”, which is a running club that aspires to run in races in every town in Connecticut. The Marlborough Lions were proud to have their members join in our 5K once again this year. Following the race the Lions presented trophies, which were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place runners in the various age categories for the male and female runners.
The Lions Club supports programs which address various issues including blindness, drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness in addition to supporting local organizations such as the Marlborough Food and Fuel Banks.
