The Gardeners Market and Craft & Gift Fair took place on Sat 4th & Sun 5th June 2016

Our Young Gardeners Planter Competition was held inconjunction with the event. The photo shows the winners of this year’s competition Nettleton Community Primary School Young Gardeners. Judged by Mr Steve Penney of Waltham Herbs to be the best entry from seven local schools at Binbrook, Faldingworth, Legsby, Market Rasen, Nettleton, Osgoby and Tealby. Osgoby were close and came second place

We would like to thank all the schools involved in the Young Gardeners Planter Competition and hope to see everyone again next year.

During the day we held a free prize draw with the prize being a bottle of whisky. This was drawn on Sunday 5th June, and caught on camera is the winner of the free prize draw Rachelle Dalton from Market Rasen with Lion Alastair Upton presenting the prize.

All of Market Rasen Lions would like to thank everyone who came to see our Gardeners Market and Craft Fayre.

Children at six local schools at Faldingworth, Legsby, Market Rasen, Nettleton, Osgodby and Tealby, grew plants for their entries to the Young Gardeners Competition at the event. Each year the winning school will be awarded the Young Gardeners Cup, donated by Market Rasen Lions Club.

.....and the winner was Faldingworth School's scarecrow garden (top left). Both Market Rasen and Nettleton Schools’ planters were Highly Commended. Creditable entries were also made by Legsby, Osgodby and Tealby Schools.

Teachers and pupils at all six schools say how they have enjoyed planning and growing their plants for the competition. In most cases, their school environment has also benefitted, with all the extra plants filling other pots and planters around the school. All wish to enter the competition next year, too!

Judge, Steve Penney, of Waltham Herbs, said the high standard of entries made it hard to choose a winner.
