OUR HISTORY
Lions Club of Maharagama Central
The Lions Club of Maharagama Central 306 C2 was founded in the year 2004 with high brand of professionals, leading business leaving in and around Maharagama area as part of Lions Clubs International network of volunteers are working together to answer the needs of the under privilege communities in Sri Lanka specially in Maharagma area.
Being a part of world’s largest Service Organization, Lions Club of Maharagama Central was established, With the Dynamic Leadership & guidance by our Charter President, Deshabandu Lion Lalith Swarnanayake JP, Charter Secretary Lion N.B.R.H. Rohana, Charter Treasurer Lion A. A. Malik JP, We judged the Best Club, Best President & Best Club Treasurer in the 306C District Convention and carried away many awards &Special award for the Blood Donation Campaign for collecting 1200 Pints of Blood on a Single Day where no other club in the world has achieved the excellent team and thrust to serve was the hallmark during 2004 - 2005.
During 2005 – 2006. President was Lion Athula Walisundara ( Attorney at Law / JP ) in this year too Lion N.B.R.H. Rohana & Lion A.A. Malik JP became Secretary & Treasurer for the second successive year and laid the solid base guided the club to greater heights Judged the Best Club, Best Treasure, Best Blood Donation Campaign at the District 306C2 Convention. Lion Malik was instrumental in organizing our club 1st participation at the International Convention in Hong Kong where 17 members of our Club Participated.
Lion Thushal Wijegunawardena became the 3rd President for the year 2006 – 2007. And Deshabandu Lion Jayalath Mahawedage JP & Lion N.M. Hairudeen was appointed as Secretary & Treasurer. It also was a remarkable year for the club in achieving our global & regional targets. This year we were able to donate 02 Houses to the Need. Judged the Best Club, Best President, and Best Secretary in the District Convention. Lion Malik untiring effort paved the way for 13 members of our club to participated at the International Convention held in Boston-USA this was the highest participation from a Individual Club from Sri Lanka
With the excellent leadership of Lion Dr. Indika Kuragama MJF, Deshabandu Lion Sarath C. Perera MJF & Lion Senerath Dematapitiya as President, Secretary & Treasurer on the year 2007 – 2008, we were able to conduct many projects which were extremely remarkable.
2008/2009 the leadership change hands Lion D. Senivaratne MJF became the 5th President of our Club, Lion Shirley Jayasinghe & Lion Leonard Rajapakse was elected as the Club Secretary & Club Treasurer respectively. During this year the Singthi Kedella Pre-school was founded judged the Best Club, Best Secretary, Best Treasurer our club took away 16 Awards at the local convention
During the year 2009 – 2010 our leadership changed with much anticipation. Lion A.A. Malik JP became the 6th President of our club and Lion N.B.R.H. Rohana & Deshabandu Lion Sarath C. Perera MJF became as the Secretary & Treasurer respectively. The President’s Theme was ‘EXCELLENCE THROUGH TEAM WORK” brought in Professionalism to Administration took bold decisions made radical changes planning ahead for next 05 years, Instrumental in shifting the Blood Donation site to Youth Centre Premises Maharagama, Introduced spectacles Made to Vision and was courage enough to drop 11 members in his tenure of office & Organized his final meeting at Amaliya Resort Homagama as a Colors Nite. His leadership qualities paved the way for a Strong & United Club in the district and judged the Best Top Ten Club, Best Top Ten President & Best Treasurer at the local convention.
Lion Gamini Maththes JP became the 7thPresident of our club for the year 2010 – 2011, and Lion Siri Jayasuriya JP & Lion Pubudu Hapugoda was elected as the Secretary & Treasurer this year too was highly successful year in achieving global & regional targets.
Deshabandu Lion Senerath Dematapitiya JP became the 8th President for the year 2011 – 2012. And Deshabandu Lion Lalith E. Swarnanayake JP, and Lion Ashoka S. Ranasinghe was appointed as Secretary & Treasurer. It also was a remarkable year for the club in achieving our global & regional targets.
This year we were able to donate a Houses to the Need. Judged the Best Club, Best President, and Best Secretary in the District Convention. Lion Malik
The excellent leadership of Lion Mahinda Weerasinghe, Lion A.A. Malik JP, and Lion M.P. Perera in the year 2012 -2013, are being driven to sky highs in achieving our global & regional targets.
