What Exactly Does The Lopez Lions Club Do?
Ongoing projects:
- Sponsor/coordinate the July 4th Parade and Fun Run
- Sponsor the Lions Club Christmas Ship stop on Lopez
- Sponsor/coordinate 5 blood drives each year
- Finance/coordinate the annual restocking of Hummel Lake with triploid trout
- Conduct annual White Cane Drive to collect donations for NW Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing
- Provide twice weekly transport of trash/recycling from Thrift Shop to Lopez Transfer Station
- Provide scholarship grants to Family Resource Center’s ‘Lopez Kids Summer Workshops’
- Provide scholarship grants to Lopez School international travel and enrichment programs
- Provide financial assistance toward eye exams and glasses for local youth and elderly
- Collect eyeglasses for recycling/reuse
- Produce annual Community Birthday Calendar
- Sponsor/coordinate Firearms Safety and Hunter Education course
- Provide year round emergency phone at Hummel Lake
- Conduct 2 food drives each year for Lopez Food Bank
Unique projects:
- Provide financial support for stair repair at Blacky Brady Beach
- Finance and construct entrance sign for Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support
- Provide scholarship grants to Lopez Seafaring/Voyaging Program
- Provide financial support to Leader Dogs Program
- Provide scholarship grants to theatrical skills workshops
- Provide financial support to Lopez Union Cemetery for building repairs and improvements as well as volunteer help with fence painting
