The Ligonier Lions Club was organized on March 3, 1955. The Syracuse Lions Club was the sponsoring club The club started with 26 members, with Tom Conner as president and James Golden the first secretary. Dues were set at $1.00 per month. The Ligonier Lions started meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in alternate church halls. We have since tried various restaurants and we now meet at Fashion Farm Restaurant on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 PM. We were early supporters of Strawberry Valley Days, now know as the Ligonier Marshmallow Festival. We have always done the pancake and sausage breakfast and all proceeds go to the festival committee. One year we fed approximately 1,700 people. Over the years we have undertaken many fund raisers including broom sales, light bulb sales, bingo, and many more. Currently we sell fruit during the holidays, sponsor a golf outing in June, and serve breakfast at the West Noble Cross Country Invitational. We use these moneys for West Noble scholarships, building ramps, and support for many local causes.
