68TH INDUCTION AND 67TH ANNIVERSARY RITES

The Legazpi City "Host" MJF Lions Club has conducted its 68th Induction Ceremony and 67th Anniversary Rite at Hotel St Ellis, Rizal St, Legazpi City last August 17 (Friday) with District Governor Manolo P Rosales, 2PMJF as Guest of Honor and Speaker.

At least 26 new members were inducted, some of which were un-inducted in the second semester of Lion Year 2017-18 when they were registered to the Lions Clubs International. 

Club President Charito I Estillomo, MJF is the new Club President inducted Together with her as new officers are 1st Vice President Jeffrey Mahusay, 2nd Vice President Florencio Pacatang, Club Secretary Jose Briones, Club Treasurer Eden Alvarez, Membership Chair Severino Francia, Tail Twister Avelino Belleza and Lion Tamer Jonathan Chan. 

REHABILATION, RECONSTRUCTION AND REPAINTING OF LIONS LANDMARKS

Through the Chairmanship of Vice President Lion Florencio Pacatang, two of the several Lions landmarks formerly constructed around Legazpi City and the Province of Albay were rehabilitated, reconstructed and repainted during the first week of September 2018. One was located at the Legazpi Boulevard and the other one is located along the road going to the Legazpi Airport. 

The project, according to 2nd VP Lion Pacatang will continue with the other Lions landmarks located at the Rizal Highway at the boundary between Legazpi City and the town of Daraga while another one is located at the By-Pass road going to barangay Bogtong, still in Legazpi City. This is a waiting shed while that at the boundary was a tall roadsign which was built way back in the 60s by the Club.

PRESSCON FOR MISS EARTH 2018

With Miss EARTH 2017 Karen Ibasco, the Legazpi City "Host" MJF Lions Club in partnership with Imperial Productions and Carousel Production held a press conference at Hotel St Ellis to promote the upcoming beauty pageant of MISS EARTH 2018.

Miss Earth Karen Ibasco told the press that the MISS EARTH 2018 is a beauty pageant of worldwide coverage. She said that at least 56 official candidates coming from different nations throughout the world are exprecte to join and come to the beautiful city of Legazpi to vie for the prestigious title.

Ms Ibasco encouraged the people of Albay as well as all the citizens of the Philippines to show their full support and hospitality to the foreign candidates, citing that it would be a way of showing our cultural heritage as well as the warm hospitality of which the Filipinos particularly the Bicolanos are well known for. 

 

UNDERWATER CLEAN-UP DRIVE

The Legazpi City "Host" Lions Club. MJF has conducted an underwater clean-up drive at the community of Sapa or officially known as San Antonio, named after its patron saint last July 11, 2018. Sapa or San Antonio is a community belonging to the town of Pilar in the province of Sorsogon. This community is near the coastlines at the southeast side close to Samar and Masbate of the Visayan islands. In going to this barangay, it took the Club's service team an hour ride from Legazpi City.

With the help of a group of scuba divers from Donsol and Pilars, the Club dives into the sea ocean to clean up the seafloor which is rich of a variety of marine life. 

HUNGER MITIGATION (Feeding Program)

The Club's service team conducted on the same day at the barangay proper inside the school grounds of San Antonio Elementary School, a feeding program to at least 500 school youths meant to complement the nutritional needs of these children. By cooking high-value noodles mixed with eggs and milk, the Legazpi City "Host" Lions Club, MJF serve the school children with the full support of the barangay officials, the school teachers, the parents and the local officials of the town of Pilar.

YOUTH HEALTH AWARENESS

In addition to hunger mitigation, the Legazpi City "Host" Lions Club, MJF also undertook a health awareness campaign to the school children at barangay Sapa as it is well-known to the residents but actually if is registered as San Antonio village. Club President Charito Estillomo, MJF spoke on stage the big importance of health especially in cleaning one's set of teeth to the school children. In line with this, the Club followed it with the distribution of toothbrushes and toothbaste to the more than 500 children who were made to attend from San Antonio Elementary School. With the help of the parents and the school teachers who made them be grouped by grades, the distribution of the health products (toothpaste and toothbrush) was very orderly.

MISS EARTH BEAUTY PAGEANT

The Legazpi City "Host" Lions Club, MJF in partnership with Carousel Production and Imperial Production is having a heavy planning to host the Miss Earth Beauty Pageant here in Albay as a way of helping in the pageant's campaing to protect and preserve the environment of the Planet Earth. At the same time, as a way of raising funds that would focus on many environment projects set to be conducted this Lion Year 2018-19 under Club President Charito Estillomo, MJF.  The beauty pageant, now on its fifth year, will be an international event where at least 30 candidates from all over the world will be vying for the title of MISS EARTH. They are going to be shown the different eco-tourism sites of the Province of Albay before the Gala Night that is set on October 21 here in Legazpi City.
