Lake Lure Lions Club
The beauty of the mountains and the glistening of the sun on Lake Lure cause refection on the less fortunate among us. Our Club is within District 31L. Check out the District website for the District Newsletter. We serve in the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and surrounding Hickory Nut Gorge region in western Rutherford County, North Carolina.
The Lake Lure Lions Club was chartered on March 26, 1979. As of October 9, 2022 we have 32 members. We are committed to excellence in our planning and delivery of services to people with visual impairments, blindness, deafness and those in serious economic need. We supply glasses for those who need them and conduct vision screening yearly. Our commitment to children is evidenced by our assistance in building up the children's section of our local library in a multitude of ways. We are dedicated to the stewardship of our environment, and maintain 4 miles of roadway in our town by picking up litter. Our major fund raising initiatives include annual golf tournaments, weekly bingo during the months of June through August, three yearly Brighter Visions Drives, and more. We help support Camp Dogwood, the Marjorie McCune Center, Mountains Branch Library, our four local fire departments, Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach and Lake Lure Classical Academy with monetary donations and/or service projects. We assess the need for new service projects in our active New Service Projects Committee.
Lake Lure is a popular vacation spot. We welcome all Lions and non-Lions in our area to visit our club meetings on the second Thursday of the month at 6:00 at LaStrada Restaurant, or stop by at Monday Night Bingo held on the Terrace at Legends on the Lake at Rumbling Bald and say hello. Check out an edition of The Mountain Holler, our Club newsletter.
