Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because they share a core belief - to serve their community.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. We have 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs in more than 210 countries and geographic areas.
Lions have a dynamic history. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects - including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled.
Lions give sight. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. We have extended our commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts and through our international SightFirst Program, which works to eradicate blindness.
Lions serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring. Internationally, we offer many programs, including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange and Lions Quest.
Our Leo Program provides the youth of the world with an opportunity for personal development through volunteering. There are approximately 144,000 Leos and 5,700 Leo clubs in more than 140 countries worldwide.
Lions award grants. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than US$700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. LCIF was also ranked the number one nongovernmental organization in a 2007 study by The Financial Times.
Lions help during disasters. Together, our Foundation and Lions are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies – and aiding in long-term reconstruction.
Lions are active. Our motto is "We Serve." Lions are part of a global service network, doing whatever is necessary to help our local communities.

How Much Does It Cost To Be A Member?
Members are there to have fun, socialize, fundraise and help the local community.
Lions International Policy
Official Lions International Policy. Lions Members are not themselves to be the subject of raising Charity funds from them. Members raise Charity Funds from the public by doing Fundraising Projects and Events. As a member you will never be asked to give anything other than your time, take a meaningful interest in the Club, help in Fundraising Projects and make the membership payments below.
Annual Subscription
Members pay an annual subscription to the Club. This is normally paid in two halves every six months. From this subscription the Club pays International and National Fees to run the organisation Nationally and Internationally.
Club Administration Fund
In addition members pay toward the Adminstration Fund of the Club. The Admin Fund is entirely funded by members and the public can rest assured that no Charity Funds are used for this purpose.
Member Fees
Other than the subscription and contribution to the Admin Fund there is no other payment required of members.
Member Fundraising Event Costs
Fundraising events are never more than at cost to members. The members contribution to the Charity Fund is the club subscription they have already paid. The payments they make to the Admin Fund and the time and effort they give in charity fundraising activities.
Member Voluntary Donations
Any other additional donations members may wish to make to the Charity Fund or Admin Fund is entirely voluntary. All members are equal. No member is looked upon any better or any worse.
Our Club
Our Meetings Are Held In English On The Second Wednesday Of The Month (Except August-No Meeting) & Are Open To All Nationalities Of All Ages Both Male & Female. We Presently Have Eight Nationalities Amongst Our Membership - Portuguese, British, Dutch, Swedish, French, Malaysian, German & South Afican. - We Are A Very Sociable Group With A Serious Purpose & Objectives. To Raise Funds For & To Serve Our Local Community. Henry The Navigator
Infante Henrique of Portugal, Duke of Viseu (4 March 1394 – 13 November 1460), better known as Henry the Navigator (Portuguese: Henrique, o Navegador) was an important figure in 15th-century Portuguese politics and in the early days of the Portuguese Empire. Through his administrative direction, he is regarded as the main initiator of what would be known as the ´Age of Discoveries´. Henry was the third child of the Portuguese king John I and responsible for the early development of Portuguese exploration and maritime trade with other continents through the systematic exploration of Western Africa, the islands of the Atlantic Ocean, and the search for new routes.
He is buried at Batalha Monastery, Batalha, Portugal which also has the tomb and eternal flame of the Portuguese unknown soldier and has a 24 hour Military Guard.

Prior to the Caravel ships where much larger, less manoeuvrable and bigger and deeper anchorages needed. It was Henry The Navigator who commissioned the building of the smaller Caravels. These are the same ships which he used to map and travel the coasts and inlets in his discoveries.
History Of Lagos
Lagos is an ancient maritime town with more than 2000 years of history. The name Lagos comes from a Celtic settlement, derived from the Latin Lacobriga, the name of the settlement was established during the pre-Punic civilizations. It became an early settlement of the Carthaginians, who recruited Celtic tribesmen in their war against the Romans (the Punic Wars). Owing to its already important harbour, it was colonized by the Romans and integrated into the Roman province of Lusitania, becoming known as Lacobriga. Quintus Sertorius, a rebellious Roman general, helped by the Lusitanians of Lacobriga (who had been oppressed under Roman Generals and members of Lucius Cornelius Sulla party), successfully defeated the Roman army of Caecilius Metellus Pius probably at nearby Monte Molião.
With the fall of Rome, the town of Lagos was occupied in the 6th century by the Visigoths from the Kingdom of Toledo and later by the Byzantines.
The Moors arrived in the 8th century from North Africa, renaming the settlement Zawaia (meaning lago, or lake). It became part of the much larger coastal region of al-Gharb, which eventually became known as the algarve. The Moors fortified the town with Lagos Castle and established important trade links to Northern Africa from their bases in the Iberian peninsula. In 1174, the local Wali gave permission for the Christian peoples to construct a church dedicated to São João Baptista, which was built outside the town's walls (becoming the oldest church in the Algarve).
